I was under the impression that one had to own property in Arizona and/or be a resident in order to run for public office.

The US Constitution requires a senator to be an ‘inhabitant’ of the state he represents. States have been generous in determining ‘inhabitants’ (see Hillary and NY), and owning property there is probably enough.
