I watched the first few episodes. I don’t remember all the details, but there was an episode where a mob guy was holding a family hostage and he let one of them go. It didn’t make sense for him to do so and only existed in the script to get someone from inside the house to get Longmire all the tactical information he needed to take the bad guy down. Just really mediocre to bad writing.

Keep in mind Longmire is actually 2 different shows. The first 3 season were on A&E and there it was at best a nice show mostly enjoyable for being not CSI technobabble and focusing more on the police work of talking. And yes a few of those episodes have some pretty dumb stuff. With season 4 it moved to Netflix and got to start telling much deeper more intricate stories, no longer stuck on the “case a week” formula, more arcs. Much better show when they were freed from A&E.
