Trump made some noise about buying the Bills, but he never seriously put himself in the running. I doubt he cared that much and I'm not even sure he submitted a bid. All along, it was clear the bidding was coming down to Terry Pegula (who wound up buying them and paid a large premium over others) and Rogers Communication of Toronto. The estate of Ralph Wilson, the first and only owner of the Bills, also favored Pegula all along - a Buffalo-area native who said explicitly he would never move the team.
As such, "sour grapes" from Trump losing the bid seems quite far-fetched.
