Early on this summer when I found myself down by Santa Rosa, AZ watching a gorgeous hail core fall on the stunning desert landscape, and then later that day staring at a haboob with a stacked shelf cloud above it near the border of Mexico, I had a feeling it would be a unique monsoon. It's funny how every year is different. That's the beauty of chasing the summer storm season out here in the desert southwest. You never know what's going to happen or what you might see.

It might serve this ‘expert’ to do a little searching of history, maybe to be specific, the Chiricahua.
Most know of Fort Huachuca located in SE Arizona. I learned the translation of the forts name and before it the mountains where it is situated is Place of Thunder. I can attest that in the late summer, I know why it was named as such. The thunder storms in Florida are nowhere close.

I lived in the White Mountai s for close to a year and was awed at the daily afternoon thunderstorms...but they weren’t anything like these. Wow.

Nice. We didn’t get much in the way of summer thunder in Reno this year. Some cloud lightning during the high point in the wild fire time frame. Getting some rain and snow mix over I-80 now which may change over to snow later today. Weather liars are saying 1 to 2 feet above 7,000 elevation with maybe 4” at Tahoe level. Woo Hoo!
First winter storm on tap today west of you here in the Bay Area. Supposed to be raining in 45 minutes...but they also predicted rain last night at 11PM and that fizzled.

Like last winter? Yeah buddy. Just checked the caltrans cams and it’s still a mix up at Donner but supposed to change. Just expecting rain today in Reno with snow possible tomorrow.
After a lifetime as an Army Brat, it was not until during my service stationed ultimately at Ft. Huachuca that I finally found my “home”. I love the high desert of Cochise County.

I’m not impressed. The video is sped up to increase the dramatic effect. I’m not sure what actually happened. All that weather “drama” happened in his computer.
Now that Obama is gone, can we please do away with the multicultural “haboob” crap? I lived in Phoenix my entire life and never once heard that term used until the all-mighty Obama was in office.
