ARLINGTON Mayor Jeff Williams called it the largest entertainment complex outside of Las Vegas. Alex Tisch, executive vice president of Loews Corporation, said it would be "the biggest destination outside of Orlando."
They were talking about Arlington's entertainment district an area just south of Interstate 30 buttressed by a major league baseball stadium, a young but already iconic NFL stadium, Six Flags over Texas and soon, the first luxury hotel of its type in the city.
Williams, Tisch and others were on hand Wednesday to celebrate the official groundbreaking for Live! by Loews, a posh 14-story, 302-room hotel that will serve as the visual centerpiece of Texas Live! the $250 million mixed-use entertainment complex going up near the forthcoming retractable-roof ballpark for the Texas Rangers....

I predict it will be a massive flop.
How come?
I just don’t see Arlington as a big attraction.
Orlando at least has other things in the area, like beaches within an hour.
I enjoy living in DFW, but I just don’t see the attraction for tourists to come here, outside of going to where JFK got shot.
Both zoos are okay. Lots of good restaurants.
Nobody is flying to Dallas to go shopping and see a movie in Arlington.
Well,...there's the Water Park in Fort Worth and good 'ol Lake Benbrook ain't to far to drive.....
Water slides down at New Braunfels? It’s not THAT far...
When I saw 302 rooms I stopped reading. Thats not Texas size. They need convention space, like a million square feet to make it a draw.
And the stockyards! Bring the family for a toe-squishing, eye-watering frolic in nature’s magic, steaming manure!
Panem et circenses.
At first, I thought they meant Arlington, Virginia!
As I’ve said b4!
Flush The Swamp! (Flush TwICE! `loaters ~ And replace it w/Vegas East!!!!!!!!!!

For the first instant I thought of Arlington, VA..... and I thought “what an interesting thing to put up just outside of Washington, DC !!”
rofl, me too! I was thinking of Arlington, VA and wondering how well this would do there.....
It will flop - Arlington is not a destination for vacations. Arlington residents have fun footing the bill for infrastructure upgrades.
This looks and smells like a casino gaming play to me.
There are no casinos in Texas.
Lord have mercy. The traffic congestion and blight of roadways, overpasses and confusing exits that may take you 20 miles out of your way or paying a gigantic fine or camera ticket are already burdening those who live or work in the area to the breaking point. Some of us actually grew up around here and cannot even find the proper roadways and exits.
Me, too. There is already a big gambling palace just outside. And the one on Capital Hill that morons get elected to.
