I wonder if they planned for the train to stop followed by a bombing of the train.
Only one half of the front of Amtrak P42 #145 was damaged.
The truck was moving, just mot fast enough.
All of the truck ended up on one side of the tracks.
Locals have claimed that the crossing warning arms have been erroneously down for hours.
Curvey tracks with vision limited to below the braking distance of an Amtrak train at track speed.
Totally bad physics plus bad infrastructure.

Lot of crossings leading to farms and homes with no gates or signals along the Rt 28 into the Rt 29 corridor in Prince William/Fauquier/Culpeper/Madison etc etc Counties in Virginia.
Few years ago a Fire Engine In Fauquier County raced a train to the unmarked crossing...Guess the Train didn’t heed the siren & flashing lights .. all crossing had was the ‘Cross’, no gates, no signals at 77 MPH for the train there was a ‘helluva’ crash.

Yes, I believe that too. They were being taken to a safe place in West Virginia. It is interesting they and their families will all be in a safe place the moment the memo is supposed to be released. Like you said, prayers being answered.

I very seriously doubt it was a high rail hangup. (see pics of all of the truck on one side of the rails along with the damage pic of the front of #185.)
Looking at the aerial imaging, it's a curvy, limited sight area.
The train was a rented/contracted Special, outside of the regular schedule.
Locals claimed that the crossing gates were in disorder.
I'm going to go with "PRynos fault"

I don’t think it was any *accident*.
Good point about it being a ‘special’....Garbage Truck crew was local and probably had the schedule pretty much ‘down pat’ for their normal runs.
If there was a hill or slight incline going to driveway, driver may have been slowing to ‘catch a gear’..
I looked up the Fire truck accident and the engineer was quoted as saying the side of the truck he hit didn’t even have the person seated there look in his direction. They (fire truck) had gotten ‘lost’ and had to come back to the site and speculation from the Chief was they probably weren’t paying attention as they were trying to ‘fix’ the snafu...

Wait - what? Somebody put a dead driver in the truck and got two other men to get in with him and sit on the tracks?

It would still be interesting to know why the truck was on the tracks. Was it moving or stationary?
Like I said, there may have been some mechanical malfunction that will explain everything. But so far, I haven’t heard any facts about the truck’s movements.
