I was surprised to see some less known and lesser popular winter sports being as beneficial for your health as the most popular skiing. What is your favorite winter sport that you follow in Olympics?

It doesn’t get any more rigorous than ice hockey. Between the finesse, the stamina and the physical abuse, it’s a combination of skills that makes for some great exercise.

Biathlon (skiing and shooting) is pretty cool.

Almost the entire Winter Olympics is BS. Does anyone really care about Curling or Halfpipe Snowboarding? And these are no longer amateurs but people who dedicate their lives to this stuff.

I was a speed skater, wish I was a downhill skier, and am glad I wasn’t a cross-country skier.

Curling is the sport of the future.

Downhill skiing gets you hurt below the waist. Snowboarding gets you hurt above the waist. Speed kills. Hockey gets you hurt all over. Curling causes neuron wasting disease.

Nordic skiing is pretty safe as is snowshoeing. Practical too for those of us who live in snow country.

“Surfing” Free Republic is the safest winter sport by far.

Figure skating. Especially when the skater’s top un-snaps.

I enjoy my skates on the Rideau Canal and snowshoeing up in the Gatineau Hills.

Thanks for all your replies. I never understood curring well, but yes, it does require fitness.

"Indeed, many studies show that skiing can help people to lose weight, increase their stamina, strengthen the cardiovascular system and even immunity, and improve respiratory function.

As well as breaking arms, legs, backs, craniums, and one's bankbook. How does that compare with walking, jogging, or deer-huntingn?

Hmph.

Biathlon, nothing better than doing some skiing and then shooting.

I think all winter sports should have shooting...like Figure Skating......pull off a Triple Lutz, then blast away!

Biathlon.

The Finns used biathlon techniques to kick the crap out of the Russians for quite some time in 1940.

Hockey is by far the best. Hockey leads to post-game beer, and as we all know beer is very good for you.

Where else can 60+ guys hang out in parking lots drinking beer at midnight?
