A language may have a dozen genders

And a language may have 25 words for "Rice", but we are discussing English. As I typed in post 19, look up Gender in an older (American/English) dictionary. There are 3. Or, there were. The progressives have taken control of the language for many, but I don't have to buy into it.

I am talking about gender in language in general.

If you are only going to talk about English, there is basically no gender in English with most of our words being neutral and a small minority being masculine or feminine.

The Romance language are where gender is mostly binary with everything being either masculine or feminine with a tiny bit being neutral.

Now in Basque you would also have masculine, feminine, neutral but also animate and inanimate depending on if you are talking about a human/animal or a rock.

There are other languages who may have more and some who have almost no gender differentials at all.
