I’ve been considering selling the house because there is just no need for all the space we have now, and we are getting too old to be doing the maintenance. Some of the current alternatives to trad mobile homes are quite attractive, but I’m a bit concerned about quality/longevity, as we may need the thing to last for 25 years.

If these are modular, then they may be on to something.

Manufactured homes can be built to a higher quality because they are designed in a controlled environment and built quickly on site, so any inadequacies due to changing weather is pretty minimal.

I live in Indiana and the climate here is hard on them. I am in the restoration business and see what happens to them if they get wet inside. Its not pretty. I have met many retired couples that thought they were downsizing and simplifying their lives. They feel silly now. Unfortunately I havent met anyone that survived a tornado in one.
