The Spoiled Generations
Sept 5, 2018 | Me

Posted on 09/05/2018 5:09:43 AM PDT by frnewsjunkie

This is a first for me. Kaepernick and the kids who have everything ... how did we go from when I was a young kid, to today's kids who have everything and seem to be hard pressed to find anything worth while. A spoiled generation... 2 generations.

Bear with me while I tell you what I had growing up, and look at today's kids.

My mother died when I was 4 and my father was in the war and I was raised by my grandmother. She lost her husband early in the flu epidemic, and she lost her daughter, my mother. She was a foundation... she took me to church every time the doors were open.. she lived a life that was an example to me.

We had very little.. I didn't know how much we didn't have until later, but I was glad to have my grandmother. I didn't have a bathroom until I was married. I didn't have a car nor transportation until I was married. I didn't have a sink and running water in the house.. we had a pump outside. We didn't have a modern kitchen... we had a cook stove. We heated the house with a coal stove and then later we had an oil heater. In the winter when it was cold.. freezing... we lived in one room that we heated.. slept on the couch and 2 chairs put togther.

We didn't have a phone until I was in high school. We did't have electricity until I was around 10. I remember the day we turned on the lights... before it had been lamp light. I didn't worry about what I didn't know about.

Our Christmas was a doll and that was it.. later there might be a necklace... but our toys were made up with our own imagination and a need to keep busy. A pole laid over 2 tree branches, a swing hung high from a tree, mud pies, a garden to work in.. hand hoe and hand weeding, a yard to mow with a push reel mower.

When we had electricity put in our house, the bill was around $3 each month. We'd get a card from the electic company and go out and read the meter, put the numbers down on the card and send it to the company. They'd then bill us.

I know there are others who lived like this and remember how it was.

Today I have grandkids who have everything. I see kids with a cell phone.. Those phones are expensive! I can hardly afford one myself, and these kids think they are a necessity. Who pays their bill each month? Do parents give them everything and think it's doing them a favor?

The generations since mine, have gotten more and more... and I don't think they are appreciative.. they don't know how little they can live on and still be sound and have a foundation that is very much needed. I see kids, young adults, who have the opinion they know it all.. and what they know, many times, is just all mixed up and topsy turvy.. wrong. There is no accountability. Parents will tend to go with "not my child.. he wouldn't do that".. or get angry at the first accusation... "how dare you". We were held accountable and there was no coming home and finding sympathy if we got in trouble.. the question would be "why were you there?" ... accountabliity for anything .. even if you were innocent... prove it.

Spoiled kids/spoiled adults... are unbecomming.. they don't know how to show respect... they are rude and think it's the norm. They want more and more.. they think they have a right to whatever they see and desire. We had to work for our allowance .. we had to work for anything and everything...NOTHING was free.. Work was the avenue to success.. it filled up idle hours.

Respect is just about gone today. Truth is gone from today's conversations. We are a bunch of ungrateful half grown adults, who have been given too much and forgot to say "thank you".

Had a 45 minute flight with a very loud, very rude soccer mom and her “angels” who chattered non stop at a pitch that would send dogs running in a 3 mile radius. They would routinely scream and shout to which she responded a soft “sshhhh.” Happened every 5 minutes or so. The youngest kid had a pacifier. He was probably no younger than 5.

They slammed into the back of the seat and kicked the seat in front of them. Her voice would carry over the entire plane as she found an equally Bffer/free ranger “parent” aka soccer mom with HER entitled brat.

I knew it would be trouble when I saw her ASK her children if they WOULD LIKE to get on the plane when it was their turn to board.

It pains me to say this, but what we need is an old fashioned depression, and a cultural reset.

As a child of the 1950s growing up in a poor household I am also amazed at how children are raised today.

One lesson I learned growing up, you need to work for what you needed and for things you may want.

A WANT is not the same as a NEED. Needs come first.

Put away a little for a rainy day because there will always be a rainy day.

These simple truths have not been passed down to the next generation.

P.S. Spoiled, jaded children, not unlike liberals, are constantly discontented; always looking for something BETTER and thus are the most unhappiest “depressed” lot on the face of this earth.

And bring back spankings; these single soccer moms treat their children as mini-spouses and adult confidants... which is child abuse in itself.

kids are not prepared for real life when they get everything handed to them.
Boyfriend break ups, losing video games.... not the end of the world by a long shot. But some teens kill themselves over that. KILL THEMSELVES. It’s insane.
Life is not fair, you do SO have to work hard, no matter what some crazy assed teacher tells them.
and those f&@@3$%^ phones....$600.00 bux a pop? are you kidding me? My stepgrands family live on public assistance- but there are 2 I phones in that house.

The “ingratitude of the masses” has accelerated exponential by social media.

we are probably headed for a real civil war and all that comes with it. That should result in the cultural reset needed.

Life has value. Just like with something you buy like a car or an expensive toy, if you have to work hard for it, you will appreciate it a lot more. Your life will have more value(to you)if effort is put forth to make it better. By giving kids everything you are actually taking away what is truly important.

Reples to all the replies:

I hear ya!! Parents were told in the 60’s not to spank.. to reason with the child... toddlers don’t reason... we were told not to spank/discipline in anger.. when else does one discipline.. while it’s fresh on the mind of the beholder and they know what it’s for.

I never waited on “when your father gets home”... we took care of it immediately.. a child will learn by 3 when you mean business. Keep it constitent... don’t waver just cause your’re tired.
Respect was important to me... show your mother respect! I demanded it.. but I also gave it to them.

The Cleansing, when it comes (and it’s coming) will be Old Testament in scope and nature.

Nothing any person or persons do or don’t do will avert it.

One thing for parents who were born with much..
When you have kids, your life is no longer your own while they are under your care. Forget what it is YOU wnat and what YOU say in front of the kids. They come fist until they are taught and old enough to be responsible with what you taught them.

That doesn’t require they be spoiled... it requires you do for them what will set them on a solid footing and know right from wrong and respect others.. give and not just take.

These are the kids that will be pushing us around in wheelchairs at the old folks home.

Sigh.

If they go to the old folks’ home and push... it’s a thank you moment. Taking time to go see folks, is worth more than anything.

They have to TELL the current millennial “care providers” not to take photos of the elderly and post them on instagram/snapchat etc to make fun of them. It will only get worse.

my kids are adults but we always ALWAYS treated each other with respect.
My kids friends in high school- mom and daughter duo- they would call each other the worst names ever.
