A 2016 study by Cornell University said people who were more afraid of germs were more likely to vote Republican. I’d say the current COVID-19 situation proves the exact opposite.

No you’ve just made COVID shut down a litmus test for what you think is conservative.

Actually, no. There are a few conservatives even here on FR that are truly frightened of this thing.

But most conservatives do not share that perspective. But in the liberal sites I frequent the fear is pretty universal - to the point that bringing up good, solid information to the contrary got me banned even though I was not breaking the rules, but just saying things (and backing it up with links) suggesting this is not what CNN says it is.

I think their heads would explode if they had to watch a few Laura Ingraham angles.

Opinions vary. Thanks so much for sharing yours. You don’t seem to even grasp the concept that this isn’t about lives vs the economy and freedom. It is lives vs lives. My perferred method is herd immunity and the need to be being immunized every day with interaction with the world. yours seems to be that protecting yourself from the normal germs and viruses from day to day life is the right answer.

Ask yourself why everyone didn’t die of any of the plagues. Ask yourself why virtually the entire native american population was wiped out by their first exposure to europeans, while europeans were doing just fine.

Ask yourself why the martians lost in War of the Worlds.

i.e. your viewpoint is not only too narrow, but based in serious ignorance of the spread of viruses and their impact.

On a fun note, yesterday at lowes I rubbed both hands on the table they set up right in front of customers at the checkout counter and then rubbed my nose again. I’m self immunizing.

We’re destroying our civilization over what is clearly a highly contagious, but relatively harmless virus.

It’s no mystery why people you “spar with” think you are selfish. That’s actually the politest term that fits. Conservatives understand personal responsibility and civic duties. What are you?

No offense, but you argue like a leftist. It’s not enogh to say I’m wrong. You reduce yourself to ad-hominem by claiming I’m “selfish” because I disagree with you. And I believe you really see it that way.

Let me respond in like kind (sort of): grow up.

I just got a company email about needing to get people to a blood drive. But we’re all locked down. Gee. I wonder if people will die because of people being unable to give blood. Is it selfish of me to want to get people back to work where they can easily participate in such events?
