Congratulations to NBC. It passed CBS last year as the most-watched network on television -- because NBC's viewership fell by only 7%, while CBS lost 8% of its viewers.
That's according to Variety.
45 of the top 50 TV channels and networks lost viewers. Only 3 gained (ESPN, ESPN 2 and the Paramount Network). TV Land and Bounce TV neither gained nor lost viewers.
The drop in viewers came despite an Olympics, a popular war and a federal election.
It is pretty spectacular that people tuned out coverage of a very close election. Fox News viewership dropped 1%, MSNBC dropped 22% and CNN dropped 34%.
You cannot blame the drop in viewers on cable cutting.
Variety said, "There may come a time when it just doesn’t make sense to rank the broadcast and cable networks anymore. Actually, that time is probably already here, with most viewing now taking place via streaming and other means. And yet, Nielsen’s numbers — which include time shifting and other ways people watch, not just live — are still the best barometer of who’s watching what in the linear world."

Ditto, except for the occasional football game, I actually go out of my way to avoid any network TV whatsoever. I hate that propaganda machine with a passion.
I watch TV just not the major networks. Wife watches cooking shows dramas and I like the paranormal and history stuff pluc AHC and things like that.
TV is what you make of it. I haven’t been to a theater in probably 20 years.
“we use Roku Channel, Pluto, and various other freebees for other coverages. We have an antenna”
Sounds like us. So many shows to choose from now, especially the older ones. Which sounds better: watching the top 1 percent of older shows or watching current ones, 99 percent of which are woke crap?
We got rid of Comcast cable tv this past year, but can still get many cable channels thru our ROKU.
ROKU here as well. Lots of good stuff not accessible otherwise.
3 hours of NCIS next Mon. night.
I like the new guy, But bring back Gibbs!
A “popular” war?
I love Perry Mason too and have the theme song as the ring tone on my phone. I get a lot of attention when it rings.
Once in a while if I’m home I’ll watch Blue Bloods. That’s the only network tv I watch.
YouTube and Prime. (Binging Hill Street Blues right now)
"A popular war"?
Wars get Nielsen ratings now?
Sooner or later, everybody will be watching TV Land.
If "Death's Waiting Room" has cable, TV Land will be on.
I used to enjoy the BBC tremendously. Like many Yanks, I looked up to British programming for maturity and depth. MASTERPIECE THEATRE was one of my favorites. (A lot of these were on PBS, which back then was the quality channel.)
Not anymore. The BBC has gone woke as hell, with absurd mixed-race casting, boo-on-whitey or LGBTQ messages. In fact, Britain was years ahead of us as far as woke. We're now catching up.
Try Father Brown, Midsomer Murders or Death in Paradise. Yes, we enjoy crime shows. Occasional wokeness, but nothing compared to USA shows.
I do find it annoying that NCIS has too much Leftism these days.
Unfortunately Gibbs doesn’t want to come back. The new guy is good, but he isn’t a ‘Gibbs’.
