The Cargo Ship that struck and destroyed The Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, Maryland appears to have lost power twice before impact with the bridge.
The ship’s lights then blink back on right before it hits the bridge support.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge has collapsed into Baltimore Harbor after a cargo ship apparently lost power twice and collided with it at 1:30am ET.

Odd that this was never considered, or if it was, a defense was never implemented.

Steered implies that it was directed into it by someone at the helm.

The bridge began construction in ‘72.
It likely was considered and the state cheaped out then and since.

Protective concrete barriers around the main supports? You must be one of those infrastructure nuts. We don’t have money for things like that... we have a Ukraine that needs braces and private school.

Appears to be a rub, and tail swing. Amazing how easily it fell down, and even more amazing how there is a video perfectly centered.
Been across that bridge many times, years ago.
Hearing lots about the bridge disaster - but little about the victims - read another report that said scans of the water showed submerged cars - and witnesses said they saw cars fall into the water - one man was rescued from the water, the person he was with died.
Citizens Free press reports:

Another report said 20 people are missing.
Don’t they have brakes on those boats.
There are 24/7 cameras on these bridges now.
I often watch the Bay Bridge camera out of San Francisco.
Ain’t that the truth.

How can ALL the power go out simultaneously on a big ship? You’d think there would be dual redundant systems. And did that outage immediately kill the rudder? You’d think steering would have redundant power.
A massive ship takes a long time to change direction. The power outage occurred not long before it hit the pier. There does not appear to be enough time for a change of direction between the time the power went out and the impact. You’d think if the ship was lined up in center channel the momentum would have kept it there and it would have coasted under the bridge.
Guessing that with inexpensive technology, cameras could be everywhere. Ski cams for mountain snow , in the middle of nowhere ski country.
