Vanity help,

Does "immediate family" include sister in law? under what circumstances (legal, societal, US only, etc)? Trying to write an article, make an argument based on family for sociological/educational perspective related to my own immediate or extended family's diversity, and not sure how far I can reasonably argue one way or another based on commonly understood definition. Thanks...

I'm not sure what you are asking. Is this your brother's wife? Your sister's wife? Your brother-in-law's wife? Your sister-in-law's sister?

Immediate family is either blood relatives or spouse and children if married.

I'm not sure it has a clearly defined meaning. To some it would include in-laws and even cousins, aunts, uncles.

IMHO Immediate family is brothers, sisters, parents, and kids.

You start getting into grandparents, inlaws, aunts and uncles that would be extended family. Just my opinion though.

I do know the military does not consider an aunt immediate family.
