First let me start of requesting that this thread not be moved to no man's land aka Chat. Thanks!
My Fellow Freepers,
As it approaches another New Years Eve, I have been getting e-mails and phone calls every day this past week asking me one question and it really wasn't until my friend John in NYC just said to me "I have a really bad feeling in my gut about tomorrow night,Al Qaeda promises a final blow."
Well I made a sexual joke about it and went on with my conversation. He returned to the subject repeatedly however and would not let it drop.
I am posing a real question here to get a vibe of the "Freeper Mind" per-say. I am interested in knowing if anyone on this board or that have friends of family have postponed any activities for NYE or NYD? Are you worried about an attack tomorrow night on U.S. soil ala 9-11?
Or
Are you like me and are suffering from Homeland Security Color Chart Fatigue?
I honestly do not think one damn thing is going to happen on U.S. soil and I am getting strange looks and responses because of it. Do I think we are still very vulnerable for one? Absolutely. Until W.takes the border situation more seriously we will always be open to major terror attacks here in the U.S.A.
I am however a bit drained on Almanac warnings, plastic forks, tweezers, remote control air planes,Zodiac signs, over hyped Jihad propoganda websites, and 6 month old audio tapes from bin-Laden.
Why do I get the distinct feeling that we are actually winning the war on terror and all of this is just psyops on the Al Qaeda scum and we are actually in pretty damn good shape?
Will planes fly into packed stadiums tomorrow night and Thursday on national TV? Doubtful. There is a no-fly zone around all of them and we are patroling the skies. Parades? NYC? Chicago? Vegas?
Sorry...I am not buying into it this year.Whether we have higher codes or not. It is not a false sense of being ok either. Trust me. I am the first to say we have a lot of work to do and can be attacked.
Yes, I am aware of the attempts to blow up LAX during the Millenium etc..but we are so on guard for everything tomorrow it almost seems like they would wait to attack on a Thursday in the middle of March rather than when everyone is looking for them.
Am I wrong?
Happy New Year

Are you like me and are suffering from Homeland Security Color Chart Fatigue?
Tina Fey said it best on an SNL Weekend Update back in 2001.
On Monday, Attorney General John Ashcroft issued a terrorism warning, asking all Americans to be on high alert this week. . . . I think I speak for all Americans when I say, Bitch, I cant be any more alert than I already am. O.K.? Im opening my mail with salad tongs. I take my passport in the shower with me. I am watching so much CNN I am having sex dreams about Wolf Blitzer.

We shall be safe tomorrow night. That is my prediction.
There will be some 100 or so drunk driving deaths on our nation highways. I find that a bigger threat...

I think your assesment is right on. Also, thanks for restating the obvious:
>>>Until W.takes the border situation more seriously we will always be open to major terror attacks here in the U.S.A.

But that is a problem for the terrorists; they want to be spectacular and to be seen.

Are you like me and are suffering from Homeland Security Color Chart Fatigue? When they're serious about it, they'll tell Americans to arm themselves. But like 09/11, that'll be too late to respond to the attack that predicates it.
Accordingly, when you hear the *high alert* warnings, you know what to do.

I am...
"suffering from Homeland Security Color Chart Fatigue. This much I definitely know about Homeland Security color code warnings--after two years--no matter which color: We should, "remain vigilant." And, we should "buy something." A whole department for this.

I'll be in Midland visiting with my family that night. I admit I do have a little twinge, but I have no desire to turn it into a full-blown fear. Fear doesn't make a situation any better in the end, whether there is an attack or there isn't. My eyes will be open a bit wider, though, and my complacency that has developed in the many quiet months since 9/11 has faded, but I won't be doing anything different.

Personally, there is not enough money to get me to go to NY or any large gathering. I'm still freaked out that Rappahannock County(which borders my county AND is in the middle of NOWHERE) apparantly showed up in some "chatter" So, no, I'm not going anywhere that night

Is the whole concert good? I watched a few songs online, and I liked it. I was wondering if anyone else would recommend the DVD...
Favorite song on the DVD?

"...There will be some 100 or so drunk driving deaths on our nation highways. I find that a bigger threat..." Not that I condone drunks getting in accidents, but how many "cell phone" deaths will we see on our nation's highways tomorrow? "Make-up Applying" deaths? "Big Mac eating" deaths? "Oops, I fell asleep" Deaths?
I assume you find ALL bad driving a "threat", not just bad driving involving certain levels of BAC, correct?
