It was clear to everyone watching that Mitchell had the first down by about six inches. The generous spot had no bearing on the game at all.

That sounds like a plan.

Yes it does. Effective, and lots of fun to work on too! Plus it burns calories. I can see it now "The Reproduction Diet"!

The guy was whining about blowing the spot by three yards. I.e. he failed to grasp the concept of forward motion.

Let them whine. Mitchell's forward progress had the first down by at least six inches, that's why there was no booth review. It was clear for all the world to see.

Yes, I don't think it was playoff caliber, meaning that it was sloppy football on both sides. Too many missed tackles, bonehead mistakes, etc. To me 'playoff football' is characterized by one team outplaying the other team with good plays, not by making fewer mistakes.

-"To me 'playoff football' is characterized by one team outplaying the other team with good plays, not by making fewer mistakes."

There were very few turnovers in this game, mostly dominated by good 'defense' (Eagles twice goal line stands). I guess only if it's an 'offensive' shootout do you think it worthy of being "playoff caliber" game.

SCOTT ANDERSON/Courier-Post
Freddie Mitchell makes a 28-yard reception on fourth-and-26
in front of the Packers' Darren Sharper. His catch
kept alive the drive that led to the game-tying field
goal.

Yeah, as everyone else watching and the announcers noted, that 3 yard spot was AFTER considering the forward progress(the spot was 3+ yards PAST the red line that he barely passed.) Red line was nearly to the 48, spot was nearly to the 45, friend.

It's a subjective call. Philly fans probably think it was a great game and Packer fans a horrible game. I didn't have a dog in the hunt.

McNabb threw a lot of passes into the dirt, and Philly can't seem to stop a run. The Packers let McNabb escape out of the pocket way too many times - and gave him tons of time to pass. When the QB is the leading rusher something ain't right. When a QB like Farve lofts a ball up for grabs in OT, something ain't right.

No, it doesn't have to be an offensive shootout. Just heavier on skill and lighter on luck. The 1985 Chicago Bears provided us with one of the best post seasons ever by stuffing eveybody and everything in sight. (and no - I'm not a Bears fan)

But like I said, It's all subjective.

Howdy Cowboy Hater! Just wanna let you know..sent a charitable donation to Cowboys charity of choice in hopes to get a friend fighting cancer a little TLC at a recent game. Jerry Jones and Co. provided VIP redcarpet treatment--5 free field passes, assistance to seat and did I mention got my donation back? was their pleasure oh and my friends felt no pain at all during photo-ops with the Cowgirls so stick that in yer BBQ and smoke it! Sincerely, the Jets fan with lotta love for Philly....

That was very nice of Mr. Jones.

Still, screw the Cowpokes. Can't stand 'em.

And, BTW, I have no problem with the Eagles.

The play was a 28 yard pick-up from the PE 26. That would put it on the GB 46. The first down line was on the GB 48. Mitchell clearly went well beyond the GB 48.

An offensive shootout (like KC - Colts) just shows that the defense failed to show up to play. A really good defense doesn't allow lots of points. All the Packers got were a TD off a fumble, one TD drive, and one field goal in 65 minutes. Not bad at all, I say, especially considering the number of opportunities the Packers were stuffed on.

The Eagle probably wouldn't be in the NFC championship if Green Bay hadn't choked and didn't go for the fourth and one when they had the momentum. I have no doubt they would have made it and won the game. Just like the Rams, both coaches decided to play tyo lose rather than go for a very makeable fourth down. The NFC championship would be Green Bay at St. Louis. Now, Donovan McNabb has a chance to equal Danny White's record of failure in the NFC championship by losing three in a row. It may not happen, but if it does Danny will have some company. Go Carolina, hope to see you in Houston.

-"The Eagle probably wouldn't be in the NFC championship if...

- the Eagles hadn't stopped the GB Packers 4 straight times at the goal line.

- the Eagles hadn't put fear into the GB Packers on going for the 4th down conversion on the Eagle's 40 yd line late in the game.

- the Eagles Freddie Mitchell hadn't come up with a great 27 yd 4th down catch to put a stake in the Packers heart late in the game.

- the Eagles hadn't been smart enough to have deep coverage anticipating a typical Favre 'throw-it-up-for-grabs' pass downfield that was intercepted by Brian Dawkins to finally put the 'Pack' out of their missery.

Let me be clearer. The red line(1st down line) in the replays is between the 48 and the 49, and he barely, but clearly, gets the ball across the 1st down line before he is driven back. The ball is then spotted by the sloppy ref between the 46 and the 45. OK, I guess I exaggerated. Instead of the ref giving him a 3 yard extra spot, he gave him an extra 2.5 yards.

I watched the replay, oh, 75 or so times. He's clearly, CLEARLY over the line. There's no question about it. The extra yard and a half the Eagles got from the spot was of no consequence whatsoever.

I get my screen capture card tomorrow. That'll be my first shot, which of course I'll post here in this thread.
