The Guild 3-3-2004 Political Ghost Story
Post Gazette ^ | Dennis Roddy

Edited on 04/13/2004 2:35:34 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

It happened at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner of the Allegheny County Republican Party, March 20, 1991, at the William Penn Hotel.

At the time the first George Bush was still flush with victory in the Persian Gulf, and dinnergoers chortled over a videotaped presentation of assorted senate Democrats backpedaling in the wake of a war they'd opposed. Ted Kennedy was shown. News clips were shown. But for Kerry, the speaker simply read the two letters, to everyone's amazement.

Is Kerry willing to face the consequences, i.e., the Wrath of Clintoon, if he tries to dump McAuliffe? Sounds like a death wish!

LOL!

cold slop, as Mr. M says

That's what we call it, it started because the kids couldn't pronounce cole slaw and it came out cold slop. And I make the best cold slop ever, btw. :-)

People of Islam believe this? Oy vey!

Who volunteers to be made to look like me, for which he will be my companion in Paradise?

Perhaps it's an influence from all the gay marriages going around but that sounds very gay to me, coupled with the knowledge that many in that part of the world are homosexual pedophiles.

The Jews boasted that they killed Isa (Jesus) and some Christians accepted their false claim due to their ignorance and lack of reason.

That's quite a stretch to hang a liar label on Jews.

Re: the Bush ads, if he can't use the 9/11 images, then I guess that means the Dems can't criticize the response to 9/11 either, right?

I forget, is that stupid museum supposed to go all the way across that river?

Just saw one of GWB's ads, not in a news story and you know what is my favorite part of all the ads? In the beginning when President Bush is walking on a White House walkway and GWB's voice says "This ad is approved by President Bush."

Yep, he's got a bit of a swagger and I love it!! :-)

Elton John, partner aren't planning to wed

Don’t start shopping for a wedding gift for Elton John just yet. The singer said that while he supports same-sex marriage, reports are untrue that he plans to wed his longtime partner, David Furnish. “David and I are in favor of gay marriage but have no plans to get married,” John said in a statement Wednesday. His comments come less than a week after Rosie O’Donnell and her longtime girlfriend, Kelli Carpenter, became the most high-profile gay couple to marry in San Francisco. They’re among the thousands of same-sex couples who’ve tied the knot there in the past month.

Now what will I do with my Vermont Teddy Bear Gay Wedding Gift?

Finally got around to reading the NY Times story on the Swiss phone chips and Al Qaeda. Wow! It was nice to see the international cooperation on this:

The officials called the operation one of the most successful investigations since Sept. 11, 2001, and an example of unusual cooperation between agencies in different countries. Led by the Swiss, the investigation involved agents from more than a dozen countries, including the United States, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Britain and Italy.

The Germans are making up a little for the stupid choice to stick with France over Iraq. Indonesia also played an important role in the investigation.

When Swiss and other European officials heard that American agents had captured Mr. Mohammed last March, "we opened a big bottle of Champagne," a senior intelligence official said. Among Mr. Mohammed's belongings, the authorities seized computers, cellphones and a personal phone book that contained hundreds of numbers. Tracing those numbers led investigators to as many as 6,000 phone numbers, which amounted to a virtual road map of Al Qaeda's operations, officials said.

I'm sure Mr. Kerry will be commending the administration for its efforts against terrorism any minute now.

About the Bush ad. I didn't know that 911 was a DEM issue. I thought 911 happened to all of us Americans?

About Teresa Catsup Kerry. The local news folks interviewed her yesterday. The news guy asked her about Kerry's Viet Nam service. She said, "Yes he went to Viet Nam, and he shed his blood there just like everyone else."

HUH??? What blood? "Just like everyone else?" Not like us little people? I don't know? All I know is that my stomach got upset after I saw her. Maybe because it was the dinner hour, LOL.

I probably shed more blood the last time I tore a cuticle than John Fonda Kerry shed in Vietnam. These people have no shame. Kerry can call himself a war hero for a couple of Band-Aid scratches, but the president doesn't dare run an advertisement describing his proven ability to lead in the post-9/11 era.

I just heard on the radio just now, that John Kerry has Jewish roots. Apparently, he had family members who died in the Holocaust. He learned about his Jewish roots last year, said the news guy. OMG! This guy has no shame. He is taking a page right out of Hillary Clinton's play book.

RE: the Kerry "mugs" - isn't it amazing that his sister hasn't had plastic surgery? She has money. His daughters could use a little equine nasal surgery as well.

I'd revoke that communist frenchie mayors' passport upon his arrival in the US and send his arse to Guantanamo Bay so that he can sample the war criminal way of life. And send that looney redgrave fellow with him. They deserve each other.

Kerry may be getting a bit of the former Dean "attitude" now that he's the nominee, but I can't imagine he's anything but a puppet of McAuliffe's and therefore the Clintons. He's just too arrogant to know it right now. If he makes any attempt to dump McAuliffe, the Clintons will cut off his funding in a heartbeat. In a heartbeat.

It would be interesting to see what happened if Kerry did boot McAwful but after watching the love fest that was the dem primaries I wouldn't put money on McAwful getting tossed.

Something from the Best of the Web:

"New Jersey has the highest teenage abortion rate of any state, surpassing even New York, according to a report released by a national organization that studies reproductive issues," reports the Newark Star-Ledger:

New Jersey recorded 47 abortions per 1,000 women ages 15 to 19, posting the highest statewide teenage abortion rate of any state for 2000, the latest time period for which state-by-state data were available.

New York followed closely behind with 46 abortions per 1,000 women, according to the report, "U.S. Teenage Pregnancy Statistics," released by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, which studies sexual and reproductive issues.

The District of Columbia actually had the highest teen abortion rate in the country, at 55 abortions per 1,000 women. Maryland, California and Nevada also posted high abortion rates, while teenagers in Utah, South Dakota, Kentucky and North Dakota had the lowest abortion rates, according to the report.

Now, do you notice anything about these lists of states? Here's a hint:

High abortion rates Low abortion rates
District of Columbia (Gore by 76.2%)
New Jersey (Gore by 15.8%)
New York (Gore by 25.0%)
Maryland (Gore by 16.2%)
California (Gore by 11.7%)

Nevada (Bush by 3.5%)
Utah (Bush by 40.5%)
South Dakota (Bush by 22.7%)
Kentucky (Bush by 15.1%)
North Dakota (Bush by 27.6%)

Hello! I've been absent all week, too. Grueling but successful week behind me. There were several 12 hr. days. I was so wasted last night I thought I might fall asleep in the elevator on the way to my room from the parking garage.

Life looks better now that I'm home.

Have you seen this journalism gem? (From Andrew Sullivan)

A lovely politically correct editing slip marred AN OPERA REVIEW in the Los Angeles Times recently.

The original sentence read that Richard Strauss' operatic epic, "Die Frau Ohne Schatten," was "an incomparably glorious and goofy pro-life paean..." Fair enough.

But you can't have the epithet "pro-life" in the Los Angeles Times. So the sentence was changed [by an editor] to "an incomparably glorious and goofy anti-abortion paean..." There is no reference to abortion in the opera.

The paper was therefore forced to run not one but two corrections on February 25. The writer rightly insisted that the paper exonerate him personally from the idiocy.
[The first correction simply noted the error. The second correction made it (somewhat) clear that the editor was at fault, not the writer.]

It reminds me of the occasion when a newspaper decided to remove all usage of the word "black" from its copy, when referring to African-Americans. it was deemed too offensive a term. Everything was fine until some tired copy-editor lazily edited an economics column. Suddenly, the federal budget moved from red ink "into the African-American."

How comforting to think these are the same people who have decided we can't handle images of 9/11...might make us hate somebody, ya know.
