Anyone know how to set up dual boot in a system that currently has a preexisting Intel 865 chipset SATA RAID1 volume wunning XP?
The Raid driver is only for XP, and I dont want to lose my XP booting. So the dual boot would have to be able to use the preexisting Intel 865 SATA RAID1 volume. I cant figure out how to get Fedora to dual boot without screwing up my XP booting. I have a whole 80G empty disk waiting to use Fedora! Since Fedora kernel is now bigger then a floppy, I cant even floppy boot anymore :(.
Knoppix ran on my laptop but it did not like my sound device. It was version 3.3. I am downloading version 3.4, and we'll see what goes. The reason I can't do the desktop first is that my wife uses that... and if I screw that up... well, I'll end up on the memorial wall.
You do know, don't you, that the Mac runs on UNIX? If you have the best UNIX that exists, why do you feel tempted by something like Linux? |
If you get hammerd by worms, or want to take advantage of the opensource community switch, if you know UNIX well switch, if you want to extend the life of hardware switch...
Ah! I did not know.
Some things, I miss entirely

where do you want them remembered ?
Web sign in pages?
dial up, etc in Win 98 ?
Other ?
The Apple OS
grew from a UNIX called Mach.
Here's it's history.
(If my memory
is right, the guy that wrote Mach [!]
still works for Steve Jobs . . .)
THANK YOU for the links.
Any knowledge is a treasure
Like a sudden pearl.
Linux=Not Quite Ready for Primetime...yet, but it's close

One word of caution, if you plan on actually using Linux instead of tinkering, stick with the 2.4 kernels, for now.

Then, check appropriate boxes:

.....prompt to save PW's
Lemme know if fixed
Well, speaking as a person running Fedora on an Intel 865 laptop with SATA RAID drives....
Boot up the first CD, and when you get to the "boot:" prompt, type in "linux scsi" without the quotes. This will enable Fedora to see the RAID drives. You will then get to install Fedora.
At the screen, that asks about partitioning, select the manaul method method, and you'll get to choose the location of your install.
If you want to use XP's bootloader, don't install GRUB or LILO at all, and when you are finished with the install, configure your bootloader to point to the Linux drive.
BTW--GRUB does an excellent job loading up Windows. My other computer does that just fine. However, Windows is installed on the secondary slave drive, while Linux is the primary master drive.
No, that did not help. I had the boxes already clicked.
Maybe she doesn't wanna pay for software or be locked into Apple hardware or support Kerry indirectly through Steve Jobs. Could be a number of reasons...
I guess this means calling in for help. Thanks again
By the way, I hate the Norton Antivirus I use...I think it is causing problems for me. Is there another anti virus you would recommend?
