"I cannot recall when Hollywood last released a big-budget mainstream feature film as partisan as this one at the height of a presidential campaign."
So believes NY TIMES's Frank Rich about the upcoming PARAMOUNT thriller MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE.
"Freed from any obligations to fact, MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE can play far dirtier than FAHRENHEIT 911," writes Rich in a column set for release this Sunday, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.
"This movie could pass for the de facto fifth day of the [Democrat] convention itself."

"The American people are terrified," says Streep's villainous senator early on as, John Ashcroft-style, she wields a national security report promising "another cataclysm, probably nuclear."
And so we watch her and the rest of the Manchurian Global cabal exploit that fear in any way possible, using the mass media as a brainwashing tool, manipulating patriotic iconography for political ends.
"Compassionate vigilance" is one campaign slogan. A televised election night rally features a Mount Rushmore backdrop (as in a signature Bush photo op) and a chorus line of heroic cops and firemen (reminiscent of the early Bush-Cheney ads exploiting the carnage at ground zero)."

Just got back...and it's actually pretty well done...
If you're a Naderite wanting nothing more than to smear JFK & l'il John as dupes of the Military Industrial Complex/Saudis/Big Business/Global Warmers/Manufacuters of Faulty Electric Blankets That Either Sterilize Young Women or Burn Babies.
The "Candidate", Sgt. Shaw, is running as the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate.
I think I know where the director's heart is...but the whole thing seems to suggest the Dems are just as bad as us.
The Meryl Streep character was said to be modeled directly on She Whose Presidency We Must Fervently Wish and Work Against.
Apparently she and others have denied this...but she does seem to have a lot of pant-suits...and she clangs when she walks.
As a movie...okay, none of these people ever served in te military, they have no idea, etc. But it was pretty neat.
Anyway, here is a thread for anybody who want's to commnet on the flick.
I'm giving all my movie money to Dick and George.
I wondered about it - I just saw the original for the first time last night, and my mother and I both commented that Angela Lansbury (creepy commie mommie) IS Hitlery!
I was really impressed with the original; I'll probably wait until the DVD release to see the new one...

Hubby & I caught the end of it last night too. I had only seen it once before, but I gotta say, it's one movie that really stays in your mind. Laurence Harvey is haunting, he's so good I had forgotten Sinatra completely.
But no one can top Angela Lansbury in that flick. She is pure evil, and you are right last night my reaction was: forget Meryl Street, this gal is the Ur-Hitlery!
Lansbury's the best, one of the very few who can play good or evil equally convincingly.
Good one.
