Thought I'd add that bear and coon should be cooked well done, like pork.

They can carry trichinosis, like hogs can.

Do you think pea jay is still around? He might need that info if he ever falls off the vegan wagon.

Which ethnic backgrounds have a problem if they don't get fish?

"If they do not feel pain, why do they twitch so much when that hook is INLODGED IN THEIR MOUTH?"

Speaking of pain, what is your view on abortion? You care so much for animals, I can only guess that you care ten fold more for baby humans? Am I right?

Geez, where to draw the line. Ever read Baxter's book on plant pain? Tomatoes squeal like hell when you slice them. When you cut off a rose for your girlfriend, it shutters with incomprehensible pain. Don't ask about spinach souffle.

He might have been a hit and run.Sure hasn't commented much on his thread.

.

You said something above about carrion eaters.

Hog,bear and coon are really good.

I've seen squirrels and rabbits eat birds and their own dead young.

Cattle and deer will eat mice, voles and other little critters sometimes when they find 'em badly wounded or dead.

Haven't seen it myself but understand that caribou and moose will eat lemmings when they're thick and dieing.

Oh the humanity! To prevent trichinosis in pork you need only freeze the meat for twenty days. Not that you are likely to catch it anyway. It is no longer necessary to cook pork to the consistency of shoe leather to make it safe. Rare or medium is safe and much more yummy.

In the case of bear meat you are quite right, the meat should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees

Also walrus meat may also contain trichinosis and should also be cooked to 160 degrees

Nah, it was just a typo and I was trying to stay off topic like the doofus that posted this malarkey.

No, screwing up is posting ones' dietary habits on a political website and hoping people will either FOLLOW YOU LIKE A ZOMBIE INTO VEGO-LAND or drop dead from all that hamburger they ate.

How can we tell the vegan witches that we don't want to be a part of their stupid religion? That we don't want to hear about how they abuse their children and let the cows run free?

:)

Did pea jay really think we cared? We want to talk about dims melting down so we can GLOAT! HA!

OTOH I have watched a lot of deer and cows and I have never seen them eat anything other than vegetation. I have seen birds eat other birds, lots of times. I know bears love dead stuff, the stinker the better. I will just have to take your word for the rest.

We also don't want to hear how they murder their babies and are proud of it, but it sure doesn't keep 'em from tellin us. I have run into two such freepers so far today. Oh well.

I know that domestic hogs aren't likely to carry trichinosis anymore but never really trusted freezing to kill bad bugs.Just me,I guess.

Don't care much for domestic pork anyway but I can get right down on wild hog and you have to be careful with them.Never can be sure.

.

Never ate walrus but if I find him in one of my rivers I'll sure give him a try. ;)

IIRC it's Inuits and certain Scandinavian groups. Basically groups which evolved with lots of fish in their diets over a very long period, and thus lost the ability to synthesize DHA from other fatty acids, because they simply didn't need it. Presumably, as with other inherited traits, you wouldn't need to be 100% one of these groups to have a chance of lacking the ability to synthesize. There's also been some research indicating that the ability to synthesize DHA (and I believe certain other essential fatty acids as well) declines with age.
