Ten years ago, she was at the forefront of a campaign by supermodels against wearing fur.
Some of the world's bestknown beauties famously vowed they would rather go naked than don the skins of animals in pursuit of fashion.
But now Cindy Crawford has been branded a ' heartless hypocrite' - by becoming the figurehead of a fur clothing company.
The 37-year- old American model is fronting an advertising campaign wearing a mink coat made by the Blackglama fashion house in the U.S.
Anti- cruelty campaigners are appalled at the aboutturn by Miss Crawford.
She openly campaigned against the fur industry a decade ago by posing in billboard ads and even signed a petition along with Claudia Schiffer,
Kate Moss and a host of other top models to back the campaign by People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals.
Yesterday, Miss Crawford's publicist claimed the model had never taken a stand against fur.
against fur. All she ever did was one photo as a favour to designer Todd Oldham.'
But the 1994 advert, with Miss Crawford naked save for a fake fur hat, appears to show her enthusiastically supporting the campaign.
In a letter to Miss Crawford, PETA says: 'How will you explain this lack of ethics and integrity to your children? Will you say that greed wins out over compassion?
'You're totally ruining your image by showing such a lack of integrity. Shame on you.'
Blackglama boss Edward Brennan said the firm's previous campaigns have included Audrey Hepburn, Barbra Streisand and Sophia Loren. 'Cindy Crawford is a great addition to that list.'
There's no fur in that picture! (none that I can see anyway)
My favorite thing about this story is I did a Google search for "Cindy Crawford I'd Rather Go Naked," trying to find the original add, and all I got was wacked-out hysterics from feminists who are outraged that the models were demeaning all women by appearing naked. The photo actually revealed nothing, and we are talking about a group of women who are mostly famous for walking up and down runways in their underwear.
Anything that gets leftists at eachother's throats can't be all bad I guess...
Ugly then, Ugly now....
Gee it seems like only weeks ago that the Idiot Left was praising the same behavior from John Kerry....
Yea, a regular Helen Thomas.
Not quite. I would put her in the Sarah Jessica Parker CouldbeconfusedwithaDrag Queen bin.
I know what you mean. She is very attractive, seems to be missing something striking. But that's all a matter of opinion.
Saw bit on TV about her, and she is really a very likeable woman. Well grounded. Not puffed up at all due to her beauty and fame. Very family oriented and seems very real. So, go Cindy!
No way. How could you compare her with Sarah Jessica Parker?
Cindy has perfect features.
Perfect Features.
That's a Man Baby....!
To think I promised not to post Helen Thomas pics till christmas.
That was my earlier comment. They could BOTH easily pass for men in drag.
Egads.
Another in the long list of issue of the moment people. They don't care about the issue, just the publicity they get for either supporting or protesting it. I really wish we could put together a "Plastic Person" watch organization. My first candidate for the Plastic Person Hall of Shame would be John Kerry followed very closely by Hanoi Jane.
No! No! No! There is no comparison between Cindy and Sarah Jessica Parker!
And I will refrain from saying cruel things about Sarah.
However, I'm not going to take the chick-pic thing any further because I'm a chick myself! LOL.
My wife passed her outside the Pierre Hotel in NYC. Unlike many models, she said she was better looking in person.
Hey, look, Cindy is a prettier Drag queen than SJP, But mannish just the same.
One can see why she was Richard Gere's preferred beard.
One very ugly horse.
