I love the smell of fresh paint.

More news on the Hobbit Hole knife project:

1. The 20 Ka-Bar/Dozier folders came in, and went out for engraving. They will help "smoothe out" inventory until the 100 CRKTs arrive.

2. Michelle at Camillus sent an email, confirming the 10 Cuda CQB1SGs were shipped today.

3. Michelle said she browbeat the warehouse manager, and found a small stash of the Cuda CQB3 with serrated blades, or with the smaller 4-inch blade. I told her we'd take them all. I'll find out tomorrow what "all" means.

Camillus has certainly earned one of our customized CQB3s for their collection, simply for going "above and beyond" in their efforts to help us help the troops.

Between the short-blade CQB3 and the BK2, these sheath knives with 4-inch blades are true utility knives, and don't qualify as "Hollywood knives" like those with longer blades. That means we shouldn't be embarrassed by giving them away, or the troops using them.

And there are still plenty of troops out there on pointy end who need and have earned the larger sheath knives.

I almost went into respiratory arrest while painting late one cold Dec. night! We had the carpet guy coming the following day to replace all the carpet upstairs. Our room was the last to be painted, and I had been sick with a bad cold, then bronchitis, but we HAD to get it done. I was doing the ceiling, and I'd lift the roller up, do about a 2 foot aquare area, then have to catch my breath. Finally at about midnight, our #2 son drove me to the emergency room. They gave me an inhalation treatment then sent me home with a biga$$ inhaler. SSQ had finished the job by the time we got home.

I found some really nice paint with low VOC (virtually NO smell) and I really like it. It's much more expensive than your best quality Benjamin Moore or Behr, but it lasts twice as long. I'd rather pay a little more up front and not have to do the job twice in the same time frame.

So...

Today I went hunting for The Reading Lamp to go on the bookcase headboard of The Real Bed. The standard was

--switch on the base, so I don't have to reach for it
--simple toggle or rocker switch, so I don't have to fumble for it
--reasonably directable light, so I don't have to move the whole lamp to adjust it.

I found it! Indeed, the display model had two rocker switches, one apparently controlling an upwardly pointed floodlight! "Aha," I thought,* "that's a very cool idea. I could definitely live with that."

So I looked around for one in a box. I have bought display models-- my dining room table is one-- but I, like most folks I know, prefer NIB when available.

Imagine my surprise when I found one in a box, and it turned out the upwardly pointed floodlight was actually the heat and light source for a cool little lava lamp!

Yes, that too I can live with.

g'nad...LogStat Line Eight Delta (Class V)...120 rds .30 Carb FMJ, 20 rds .30-06 JSP. A ShootEx this Saturday will consume 30 rds .30 Carb. A future ShootEx may consume the .30-06, but projections indicate intentions of ASP to obtain .30-06 FMJ, if available. Otherwise, stocks of .30-06 JSP will be plussed-up to 40 rds prior to ShootMoot.

300WM: The shootEx referenced above will include assorted workmates, including the one with the odd M44-like rifle. I'll try to get a better read on its identifying characteristics.

Jen: hope you survived the Perfesser.

*Yes, I actually thought "Aha." Isn't that wierd?

OK, so what's the brand name of The Reading Lamp, and who makes it?

Evenin' everyone too!

[sigh] I am just soooo tired of employee problems. I don't want to manage people anymore. People that don't get along with other people. People that are mean and spiteful and nasty that are mean to my people. Grrrr.

HI Ruthy! How are the girls? Is it a cold, or what?

The cold bug has gone through our house. I think Joseph brought it home from school. He just got a mild case, then Clare got the sniffles and sneezes, then I got a nasty head hold which thankfully didn't morph into full blown bronchitis which happens sometimes. I do have some chest congestion, but nothing too bad. SSQ is the last one to get it and he sounded worse than all of us. We've been taking Tylenol Cold Non-Drowsy formula and it has helped tremendously. Hot tea and LOTS of water have also eased the symptoms. Early on, I tried some of that Honey Flu concoction by Robitussin and it was just VILE!

Well... that was pretty much my vent. I can't vent here too much about such things, since I suspect they know my name here.

Got one piece of good news today... It looks like I'm getting a new office. A corner. [snicker] It's about fargin' time. :-) Still not sure yet, since there's some competition for such things. But we'll see. If nothing else it will be a good opportunity to clean out all the collected crapola in my office.

Hey there Suzi!

Yeah, it's the same cold that seems to be traveling cross-country real quick. Sniffles, mild sore throat, stuffed up head and nasty cough.

Nyquil always works for me, thank goodness. I just dose myself every night and push through the dratted thing during the day. I tried that Honey Flu crap too and you're absolutely right....NASTY!

I'll just take the honey straight up, thank you very much. :-D

Both girls have finished the worst of it and just have the lingering cough and stuffy noses. I hope it'll be over by the weekend.

Congrats on the new office! Does it have a window at least? *grin*

My department's moving over to the other side of the building to be crammed in with 401k, benefits and external HR. The powers that be have decided to rent out our side. *rolling eyes*

No office for me though...just another cubicle. *sigh*

Oh yeah, and they've just informed us that we'll have less file space too. Whoopie.

Dang... Yah... we sublet part of our suite last year. Crammed everybody into the rest, though we lost enough people that it wasn't too tight a fit.

Yah... it'll have windows... though in our building, almost everybody has a window just because of the shape and layout there aren't many internal offices or cubes. The internal spaces are mostly conference rooms, copy rooms, computer room, kitchen... that sort of thing. It's a nice thing I've liked very much about working here.

The whole window cubicle thing is gonna cause an uproar in our department when the move takes place.

There aren't as many window seats available on that side and folks who have one now may have to give it up. It's gonna be ugly.

Hate to admit it, but there are some folks whose indignation I am going to enjoy immensely, albeit quietly. *wicked smile*
