I don't know; I only have enough time to get on forums like this. I can't listen to radio all the time. YES, I'M SERIOUS (not "series", tho). Sorry I don't know all.

I AM 35. And like it or not, it's true that most people will "tune out" if it's only calm, rational discussion - cuz it's boring after a while. That's the truth, and I know it hurts. Unless you don't care at all about getting the ear of the vast majority of people, that's simply the case.

If you look for gravitas in the dictionary, there is a picture of Brit Hume.

Sean's poor skills and self-centeredness hurt the cause, if I may use that word.

He's like the spoiled child whose parents think he is SO smart and SO cute and won't tell him to be quiet and go play with the children.

In the end, those children end up annoying the dickens out of both the adults and the other children.

"This was below the belt by Sean."

You are exactly right, Hannity's comment was uninformed and inaccurate. He's made similar comments before. His feelings are hurt that not everyone here marches in lockstep with him. Tough.

There are great folks here who do terrific work. We know that. I see Hannity as an over-plugged talking head. He is effective at some levels. He's not bright, rarely articulate, but charming and talks louder than Alan Colmes. That makes money for him. So be it.

He just won't be taking any of my money, or my listening time - radio or t.v. If that makes me part of the "lunatic fringe" then sign me up!

YES, I'M SERIOUS (not "series", tho). --- the use of "Series" written when "Serious" is the intended and correct word is a little inside joke at FR for years. FReepers also do the same thing with "hugh" and "huge". Keep an eye out for it. I used to correct people too as you did. They'll often write, "This story is hugh, I'm series." ;-)

I AM 35. And like it or not, it's true that most people will "tune out" if it's only - cuz it's boring after a while. That's the truth, and I know it hurts. --- It is true that younger people believe that, and it is much truer with young people because you tend to have much shorter attention spans. Don't get bent out of shape about that. It's mostly because of what your optical nerves have been treated to over the past three decades on TV and in the movies. Young people are almost mutated because of what the media has done to their brains over decades. That is why I asked you your age, because most older people do not hold that opinion.

But, you are right.......... "calm and rational discussion" is a turnoff to most of the younger. Most people your age do not and have not read too many books either, that being another part of the damage caused by with what you have been electronically bombarded. Bummer.

I'm 58 and most of my friends my age note that their kids and the ones they observe in the work place are almost a different specie because of what the media has done to your brains, and it's only getting worse.

"Calm, rational discussion" is out for most of you folks, much to the detriment of the country, imo.

This is a great place to call home, and he sold us out selfishly.<

I'm not sure that he did sell us out selfishly. I think he's been disappointed that a place that should be home to him also, isn't. Would you feel at home in a place that made fun of your IQ, of your home life, of your career, of your books, and so on? I sure wouldn't.<<<

Point.

a) I have hardly seen any TV shows or definitely movies for 2 decades. They offend and appall me for the most part, so I hardly bother. I'm not at all used to going to movies, and often miss the rare 1 I'd like to see just cuz I'm not in the mode of "let's go to the theater".

b) My own attention span is very good - at least for the (many) things which interest me, even if just topically. Some would say I obsess too much on 1 thing at a time. My fiance says so. He says he's better at multi-tasking than I am. Yup, I prefer 1 thing at a time - and I tend to fully obsess on 1 thing at a time! Ask me about my studies into old-time horse-racing data. I'll show you the spreadsheets; I'd show you the data books I have but you'd have to settle w/a photo of them all. There is no TV involved. Then tell me who has the short attention span.

c) Point was, I was acknowledging the truth about people in general needing more than just "calm" and "metered" and "composed" intellectual discourse; if you think it's just "young" people (thanks for thinking I'm young), fine. In any case, it's the truth. If I was a marketing person, this would be an obvious rule to follow.

And it still doesn't acknowledge that the most successful movements in history generally have both much intellectual "rational" thinkers, AND more emotionally charged "activists". You can't write that off as "old people don't need emotion" or whatever. People need to see that others are EXCITED about something; that it is so important that some1 is all worked up about it. If every1 seems neutral on it - why get really excited about it? There's more to this than "attention span".

Yep!

Good luck with the upcoming marriage. I can see by how you make a point that you are one not to let something sit without you getting your feelings across. That's a good thing. Good luck......... I've been with the same girl since 1973.

I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury. ;-)

I'm the "pit bull" of conversation....I can't let it go! ;-D

Congrats on your continuing marriage. Actually, my fiance - even tho he is generally quiet - is very communicative w/me in private about "us". I'm the 1 who has more trouble talking about my feelings, good or bad (I guess it's the "if you can't say something nice...." thing).

Maybe if we wrote to each other on a forum like this it would be easier for me. ;-)

And thank you for your blessings. :-)
