Well, they went and did it.
The Republicans look like they will wimp out, not exercise the so-called Nuclear Option, and Harry Reid will PERMIT two judges to be approved and disapprove four others. Does anyone think for a second the Democrats won't "go nuclear" in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed?
This seals the deal for me. I am a Republican no more. It seems it does not matter if I vote Republican anyways, all I get is more liberalism. I am a man without a political party. I am a conservative without a home.
Between Bushes enthusiastic embrace of illegal immigration, and our party's inability to get even moderately conservative judges approved, what's the freakin' point of voting Republican any more? What's the point of voting? I will get liberalism no matter how I vote. My main issue is guns, and it appears the Democrats have learned their lesson on that one, so it appears I will be safe on the firearms front. Everything else the Republicans stand for, they stand for in word only. They do not seem to want to act. Therefore, I do not seem to want to vote Republican any more.
This is my Opus -- not from Free Republic, but from the Republican party. Even when they have the majority, they surrender.
The Republican Party is the France of politics.
Nonetheless, it is an opus of sorts, so welcome to the International House of Opus.
The anti-opus logo is coming soon.
I hope you are right. If the Repub's hold firm and get the judges, I'll stay loyally Republican after all.
I have never considered myself a republican. I am a conservative. Admittedly that leads to me vote republican the vast majority of the time. But I am a conservative first.
Making a big mistake? Because I'm not supporting a bunch of wimps with $$contributions from my family's budget? I don't think so.
I did, FRiend. Thusly my incredible revulsion at the possible outcome.
Try thinking about baseball.
'The Republican Party is the France of politics.'
super line.
Feel the same way. It is great to have an honest President, and I am not sorry I voted for him, but I do have serious disagreements and questions about the immigration issue, for one thing.
What worries me is that whoever ends up with the Dem nomination for the next cycle, has several big issues including immigration that, used correctly, could completely change the election dynamics. And they know it.
I feel as tho the present administration is giving away the store and I can't figure out why. I guess they are so removed from the realities of American life that they think they can decide what is important to us - without asking.
Also the Republicans don't seem to have much backbone any more. Maybe they need to schedule some 'listening tours' and forget about their 'talking points'.
I'm just wondering who the lucky rat is that will be elected in 08...
Laz, you got good points, but I suspect that Frist doesn't have the votes for the nuke option. Snow, Chafee, McCain are three I can name offhand who should be IHOP spokepersons cuz they are great "wafflers".
To be honest, I am hanging on by my fingernails, too.
I want a party that FIGHTS. I want a party that is willing to go down, way, way down, to the bottom of the sewer and fight the Democrats where they live.
Agree. The AP story smacks of a trial balloon. The Dems want to be able to screech, "We had a deal ready on the table, but those INTOLERANT Pubs wouldn't take it! The nuclear option is unnecessary! We have a deal reaaaaadddddyyyyy!"
My gut tells me we have the votes and no "deal" will be accepted.
Goodness, I know exactly what you mean, have had exactly the same thoughts.
Can't get thru on the phone, then EMAIL AND FAX THE HEEL OUT OF EM!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah right. Real parties. Neither one of them could stick to an agenda for more than 4-6 years. The Republican party at one time used to at least voice limited government positions. Not anymore. They're loose from their moorings and moving to the left as fast as they can. Not that the Democrats stand for anything anymore either. I'm not big L libertarian but I wouldn't waste my vote on either of the major parties if you paid me.
Do you remember the thousands of calls and emails we all sent to Wash. about Arlen Specter? Why do you think we are ready to give up on the GOP?
I'm not quite were you are yet. But the 'rats have not learned their lesson on gun control. It's just on the back burner.
