Word For The Day, Thursday, May 12, 2005

Thursday, May 12, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

ZOIC

Adjective combining form
Pronunciation: Zoic
Etymology: [Greek] (zoicos) Of or pertaining to animals

1) Animal: having an animal mode of existence: animal life and action.
2) Of or relating to a (specified) geological era.

I guess we could say Hobbes1 is a tigerzoic humanoid. So sorry, Tiger. It was a low fast ball.

You can use any root word for the “zoic.” Just make it sound like we know what we’re writing.

Keith Butler was endorsed by our AG Mike Cox today. I was at the Lansing announcement. Time for Debbie Stabenow to be sent back to Lansing or East Lansing.

vast, i have to tell you. i cooked something in bacon grease tonight.... after our discussion the other week about frying eggs in GREASE (the word does turn my stomach, truth be told), i was on the bugeyed bride threads and the suthren ladies were talking about recipes and fried corn came up and i was aghast that they #1 felt compelled to fry corn, and #2 fried it in BACON GREASE. but i was intrigued. so the other day i made bacon in a pan (first time in 20 years) and got the pig's body fat that was left in the pan. i saved it to make this dish. i cut the corn off the cob, and fried it in the animal's body fat and then added half and half, which is what i was told to do, and cooked it for about 20 min. It was surprisingly good! xsbrownie and xsboy gave it a thumbs up (the supreme compliment is when i am told i can make something AGAIN. normally it's ok, but don't make it again...) xsteen comes down to eat and starts looking at it suspiciously, getting ready to turn her nose up. she asked what was in it, i said just corn and cream. WHat kind of cream? cream cream, i said. I said it's fried corn. i must have mentioned the whole idea of it to her, bc she said, so it's FAT then? i said like everything you eat is low-cal? she said, but this is voluntarily cooking something in FAT just bc those suthren ladies told you about it.... boy is she my daughter or what? she liked it ok, not as much as the younger two did.

Good evening - I am not going to even attempt to play catchup here....

I have been battling with the telephone company since before 8 this morning because my phones have been useless to me since last night.

Well apparently I raised enough cain and made enough threats and asked for enough names, that not only has my service been restored nearly 48 hours before I was first told it would be by the first person I spoke to this morning - I have also been creditted for 2 months service based on the number of calls and amount of time I have been out of phone service, just since the 1st of the year.

But they won't give up - even after having 5 different service center people, including dispatchers and supervisors acknowlege that the problem was with their equipment outside, not mine inside, the most recent call I received claimed the problem was common for homes with multiple lines.......and it was a problem inside my house.......JEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ

LOL!!!!!

I considered paging him - but decided that wasn't fair to him.

If Verizon thinks getting my service back on tonight, and creditting my account is going to keep me from filing the complaints regarding the total disregard for customers in this county, they've got another thing coming.

Every single problem I have had with service in the past 2 years has been directly traced back to the poor quality of the equipment here - they won't upgrade it.
