If I remember correctly, one of the networks (CBS I think) had the movie Foul Play scheduled to run that night, but preempted it because they thought it would be in poor taste to run a comedy with an attempted assassination of the Pope in its plot on the same night that an actual assassination attempt on the Pope had occurred.
