This stuff is amazing, and it's just going to get more amazing in the next few years (trust me on that one!)
You could do all that on PC right now.
Hardly. The graphics in PC games are nowhere near that quality. Check the game play videos...
No, not like this. While the ATI x800 and NVidea 6800 are great chips, they don't match the overall power of the Cell and it's graphics system.
Check out the trailers! It's FReepin' amazing!
The difference being that when vidio cards are made using cell chips or the equivalent, PCs will be upgradable.
I don't discount the advantage of upgradability, but remember - this creates a huge headache for game developers, because they can't count on a consistent configuration. Hence, the game is neither fully optimized for the rig you have, and it may not have been QA'd on the rig you have.
I'm not a gamer, but I might make an exception for a PS3. Besides, I'd get a Blue-Ray drive included with it.
ping. :-)
Video games: Waste of a life!
Nothing beats Atari 2600.
Not a chance.
I an currently running a 3.6 GHz 660 CPU (2 Meg cache) on a 1066 FSB (P5AD2-E/DDR2) mobo with a 6800 Ultra PCI-E vid card and it still cannot touch the PS3.
XBox Live is mankinds greatest invention. Ever.
I don't understand a single thing you just said.
He said that if you are serious about video gaming, you should get PS3.
While I agree on a certain level, video game tech is what is driving much of the advancement in computers. Much as the space program drove innovation in electronics in the 60's, the technical needs of the gaming industry are creating solutions that have far broader applications. The processing capabilities needed for games can be harnessed for all sorts of math intensive modeling for engineering, medicine, communications, etc.
Hardly. The differences between computers and consoles are huge. For one thing while computers are still in 32 bit, consoles are at 128 bit right now. Graphics and there processors are dedicated for rendering and gameplay on a console while on a computer they arent.
Computers right ow can barely even emulate current consoles, not to mention you always get at least one generation ahead graphics technology on consoles. ATI, NVidia tend to now use the console market to offset the future costs of video cards in computers.
But I understand it. And he's right.
One thing a PC does better than gaming systems is in the resolution department. However, if the PS3 can run 1080p . . .
I just read about the new Nintendo Revolution, and although it isnt going to be as powerful a system as Sony or even Xbox, I think they are going to be the major player this time around, especially with wifi out of the box, free online gaming and access to its entire history and catalog of games. Nintendo is one to watch.
I resemble that remark....
