...But then we got high. And that was three years ago!

Pam Anderson recently shared her own Paris Hilton experience, revealing to GQ that Paris can't really be bothered with anything as bourgeois as literacy.

"She's funny," the top-heavy bombshell is quoted as telling the mag. "Last time I met her we were in a restaurant together. She slammed the menu down and screamed, 'I hate reading! Someone tell me what's on the menu!'"

Says Pam, "I mean, I'm blond but c'mon."

In the liberals are idiots file:

...we noted a zany letter to the editor in an item we said "has no point." How wrong we were. It turns out that the letter writer, Dave Genova of Asheville, N.C., was dead wrong when he described dolphins as peaceful creatures. They have, in fact, been implicated in a whole host of crimes:

Bullying. "Gangs of strong males pick on younger or smaller dolphins," National Geographic television reported in 1999.

Domestic violence. "Dr. Richard Connor, studying dolphins in Shark Bay in Western Australia, has documented cases of males kidnapping and holding females captive, sometimes for months at a time," according to National Geographic.

Interspecies hate crimes. "Harbour porpoises are being killed in increasing numbers by bottlenose dolphins around British coasts," the BBC reported in January. The New York Times reported in 1999 that "dolphins have been found to bludgeon porpoises to death by the hundreds."

Infanticide. "Dolphin researchers from the United States and Britain recently reported that baby bottlenose dolphins found dead on the shores of both countries were likely battered to death by adult bottlenose dolphins," reported Ocean Watch in 1998. The Times reported in 1999 that "off Scotland, a scientist watched in shock for nearly an hour as an adult dolphin repeatedly picked up a baby in its mouth and smacked it against the water, over and over, until it sank from view."

Sexual Assault. "A Norwegian man is accusing a dolphin of attempted rape," Reuters reported from Oslo in 1999. "Norway's top-selling daily Verdens Gang on Tuesday quoted the 28-year-old as saying that the dolphin apparently mistook him for a female after swimming alongside him in the sea off Farsund, south Norway, earlier this month. The dolphin's penis got caught between the man's swimming costume and his legs. . . . 'The dolphin shoved me forward two or three metres [six to 10 feet] before I got loose,' he said. 'At first I thought it was a fin . . . but dolphins don't have fins on their underbellies.' "

BotW's helpful tips to stamping out these horrid beasts:

It turns out that the fishing nets used to catch tuna have the added benefit of ensnaring and killing dolphins. Tuna that is not caught using this method is labeled "dolphin safe" so that you can avoid it. This Web site has a helpful list of supermarket chains that sell non-dolphin-safe tuna. Tuck away a nice tuna-salad sandwich, and you'll be doing your part to save the world from the delphine menace.

Is Flipper a dolphin or a porpoise?

The very mention of Flipper puts the TV show's theme song in my head, where it will stay for the next 12 hours, in all likelihood. Flipper was a dolphin.

They call her Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning. No one you see is smarter than she. ...

One of my very few talents is a Flipper impersonation, by the way.

Neato! One of my few talents is a peacock impersonation. But no, I won't do it in the company of peacocks, after discovering that can be dangerous.

Knowing that dolphins are so testy I advise you keep the Flipper impersonation on the down low at the beach. :-)

Btw, Terry Moran confirms what we all expected to Hugh Hewitt during a radio interview:

There is, Hugh, I agree with you, a deep anti-military bias in the media. One that begins from the premise that the military must be lying, and that American projection of power around the world must be wrong. I think that that is a hangover from Vietnam, and I think it's very dangerous. That's different from the media doing its job of challenging the exercise of power without fear or favor.

Tom Cruise adores his latest love, Katie Holmes. Let's hope, this time, there are no male porn stars looking to smudge the picture of happiness.

As Cruise makes the rounds promoting "War of the Worlds," the often-guarded actor can't stop gushing about the "Batman Begins" actress. "I love this woman," Cruise told "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush in an interview airing Monday. "I am so happy, and I am not going to pretend or hide it or be shy. This woman is magnificent."

Giddy Tom pulled Katie onstage during his chat with Oprah Winfrey, also airing Monday. "I've never seen him like this before," says Oprah. "He's gone."

Usually, it's around this time that some creepy hustler crawls out of his go-go cage to spoil the joy. You may remember Chad Slater, aka Kyle Bradford, the "erotic wrestler" who claimed in 2001 he'd been Cruise's lover. Cruise, who was starting to date Penelope Cruz, filed a $100 million defamation suit against Slater - coming away with a $10 million judgment.

You haven't heard about another porn actor, known as "Big Red." In November 2002, porn-actor-turned-private-eye Paul Barresi heard through the gropevine that Red - named for his carrot top and ample appendage - was trying to sell his story. Barresi says he arranged for Red to meet him and infamous Hollywood private eye Anthony Pellicano. Red told them he'd had an encounter with Cruise at his London home when the actor and then-wife Nicole Kidman, were shooting "Eyes Wide Shut," according to Barresi, who promptly informed Cruise's pit- bull lawyer, Bert Fields.

Fields hurled one of his fireball letters. "As you well know, this story is an utter fabrication," wrote Fields. "[Tom Cruise] has never had a homosexual experience or encounter with you or anyone else."

Fields tells us he was unaware of any involvement by Pellicano, who thereafter went to jail for possessing illegal explosives. The lawyer confirms Barresi's role but says, "Pellicano was not acting for Tom Cruise." link

From the same NY paper:

Sen. Hillary Clinton is planning to host Iowa supporters at her D.C. pad. The fund-raiser is for her 2006 Senate campaign, but the mere mention of Iowa is bound to fuel talk that she's eyeing the Iowa caucuses in the 2008 presidential primary season. Meanwhile, Hillaryites love the speculation about who'll run against her in New York. "Every time another wanna-be Senate candidate is mentioned there's an uptick in contributions," a source tells The News' Ken Bazinet...

All the news that's fit to print:

New York Times bosses allegedly fired former Baghdad bureau chief Susan Sachs, claiming she ratted out colleagues John Burns and Dexter Filkins by sending anonymous notes to their wives, alleging flings in the war zone. NY Daily News.

Back on the subject of Arianna's blog, this time from the same NY Times (excerpted):

.... But we were most interested in talking to ARIANNA HUFFINGTON about her new celebrity-written blog, the Huffington Post, which has been the talk of the Huffington Post.

So Ms. Huffington, do you keep up with what is written about the blog?

"You know, I always catch up with it but not always in real time, because if I read everything on our blog, and read everything about our blog, I wouldn't be doing anything else all day."

What's your favorite blog response to your blog?

"I mean there's been a lot. MICKEY KAUS has been writing. I just saw before I left that he linked to my female orgasm blog. And I've been linking to what he's doing. I've been linking to what JACK SHAFER is doing. I've been linking to criticisms of the site. I've been responding to some of these criticisms.

"I've been trying to use the little box that I have at the top to answer some of these questions, like tonight I just did one about 'Why are people blogging?,' 'Why are people from other platforms - books, movies, articles - blogging?' "And the answer was given by NORMAN MAILER, who just blogged for the first time, and he said, 'I now understand why anyone may want to blog.'" ....

Martha Stewart seems to be having a tough time keeping the help. Apparently she's been shuffling through assistants since getting back from the slammer.

"She lost the last one, Jeffrey, about three weeks ago. He was great, but he only lasted three weeks," says a snitch.

Stewart's former assistant Ann Armstrong notoriously gave damaging testimony about being told to alter (and then change back) the "smoking gun" ImClone memo that helped send her to jail.

"Ann was reassigned after the trial and then quietly resigned," says the source. (NY Daily News)
