Not too long ago, blond was the way to go in the United States. Something about reflected lightness, European purity, familiarity, etc. Even brown haired gals like Annette Funicello were shockers. The ideals were Harlow, Monroe, Sandra Dee, etc.
Then, things began to get "exotic." That's what it's all about now. You can't be too Afro-American, too Latin, too Asian, too Polynesian, too Naive American. If you are all of the above, a coffee, mixed with white cream, you're IN!
