You are correct. I completely agree with you in that slavery is terrible, and there is/was no excuse for it. Even despite the fact that at the time it may have been "accepted". (as a side note, do we forget that MANY cultures held slaves? Is slavery the overriding theme when we watch a documentary about the Pharoes of Egypt, or Roman Empire? Again, this is not an excuse for slavery, rather to show that there is an effort being made to discredit our forefathers where others are not held to the same standard.)
Additionally, this program (and others) will go out of their way to ensure that they spend as much time (or more) declaring the evils of our founding fathers, while giving a pass to more contemporary people.

Your're right. And slavery is not the only hideous evil to curse our ancestors and our contemporaries. In the late 1800's, in some counties of California, a $5.00 bounty was offered for the head of any Indian brought in. Think what the words to John Brown Had a Little Indian mean. Roman brothels offered babies for fellatio. Moorish occupiers of Spain blinded musicians who were to play for harem activities. The list goes on and on.

There is no limit to human depravity--or to human goodness.

Heroism is as basic to human nature as is depravity.

The supreme beauty of Todd Beamer is that he was an ordinary man--just like you and me--and that anyone you meet could be such a man--or woman.

We must never forget this, and we must also never forget that the dark side exists in all of us too.

Mother Teresa said that she decided to go to Calcutta when she looked inside herself and saw a Hitler there.
