PHILADELPHIA, PA, September 7, 2005 - West Philadelphia hip-hop recording artist Skillbill (a/k/a "Birdheadz", Alexis Dean) has recorded the song "Blue Monday," inspired by Hurricane Katrina, its aftermath and its victims.
The song's tone could be characterized as sober, even mournful. However, the lyrics emphasize the need for a positive outlook, even in the midst of such a tragic situation. The refrain is "Blue Monday/ I can't stand the rain/ It's a shame it came/ I can't imagine your pain/ Blue Monday/ Things'll never be the same/ But some way we gotta maintain."
The song was co-written by, was produced by and features guitar work by DaRulah (a/k/a Whey Cooler of Pretty Poison [“Catch Me I’m Falling”]). The song was recorded at DaStudio Recording Complex in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Skillbill is perhaps best known in the region for various songs related to his ultrafanaticism for the Philadelphia Eagles, e.g. "Letz Go T.O." The song's title makes reference to the day on which Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The additional meaning of the title is a tribute to legendary New Orleans musician Fats Domino, who is sampled in the song; Domino was missing for several days following the hurricane, although he has since been found.
The majority of proceeds from online MP3 and CD sales of the song will go to the new organization Brotherly Love for New Orleans. The organization's "perhaps-arbitrary intention" is for funds to go toward helping residents and former residents of St. Bernard Parish (the home of Eagles safety Quintin Mikell) rebuild their lives and toward assisting victims of the hurricane who relocate permanently to the Philadelphia area. Brotherly Love for New Orleans was founded by, among others: Skillbill, Blank Rome litigation attorney Adam Taxin, former Eagles starting fullback Cecil Martin, Coriendo CEO Peter McGrath, Old Original Bookbinder's president John Taxin, Charming Shops Marketing Director Amy Vogt, onecrazyfan.com founder Michael Young and former Eagles linebacker and KYW/WIP personality Garry Cobb. After hearing lyrics to most rap songs, it is refreshing to see that someone can make a record without talking about killing cops and slapping their....er....female dogs. I also don't see too many other rap artists out there helping. Thanks for posting.
He has not hit the big-time yet, although he is quite popular among hardcore Philadelphia Eagles fans.

Song for relief
Phillies pitcher Brett Myers has lent guitar work to a song written to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief.
It's called "Blue Monday" and it's written by Skillbill (Alexis Dean) and DaRulah (Whey Cooler), the two guys who front the Birdheadz, the Eagles appreciation band that got media play during the Super Bowl run.
Proceeds from the song's sale will go to a new group, Brotherly Love for New Orleans, whose backers include Blank Rome lawyer Adam Taxin and former Eagle Cecil Martin.
