AMERICA - The Right Way (Day 1782) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | December 7, 2005 | All of Us

Posted on 12/07/2005 6:11:39 PM PST by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Good morning!!

Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor teh brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

WINTER STORM WATCH FOR THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION, VIRGINIA BLUE RIDGE AND APPALACHIAN MAIN SPINE, ALL OF WEST VIRGINIA, PENNSYLVANIA AND NEW JERSEY, THE SOUTHERN TEIR OF NEW YORK INCLUDING WESTCHESTER, PUTNUM, ORANGE, AND ROCKLAND COUNTIES AS WELL AS NEW YORK CITY AND LONG ISLAND, ALL OF CONNECTICUT AND THE EASTERN HALF OF OHIO

Storm Track [NEW FEATURE]:

Discussion:

A weak mid-level LP system over the Ohio valley will move NEward over the next 24 hours and light off lake effect snows. This same system will cause cyclogenesis of a low=level LP system off of C. Hatteras--the breeding ground for nor'easters.

This system is expected to undergo explosive deepening and likely bomb out as it proceeds northeastward toward the open waters off New England.

That said, it is likely to be a fast mover, which will keep down snowfall. Unfortunately, dendrectic effects (moist air hitting blasts of cold causing precipitive fallout) are likely to be significant, and the rapidly decreaing pressure gradient will also contribute by forcing banding. The latter effect makes snowfall estimates difficult, but there is a 0.7" column of precipitable water available to the system. Some compensation needs to be given for the warm ground, so a meltdown ratio of 8:1 will be used. Total expected drop in northern Virginia near the Capital is 6 inches--check the bathrooms, you need three rolls.

In the news...

Well, as he threatened, Saddam didn't show up for his trial today. The trial went on anyway, at least for awhile. The judge has ordered a continuence until after Parliamentary elections in a week.

Good evening Chair!

This storm is going to hit you real hard. For the last 3 weeks we have had a huge dome of (very cold) high pressure over the state that is now sliding south over the Continental USA (the beginnings of your storm on the east coast) while a huge low (947mb) is riding up on Alaska from the south pushing the high out of the way. We are battening down the hatches here as we are expecting 100mph+ winds tonight along with serious rain and snow.

I just read the following from today's ABC-The Note:
The jockeying for DeLay's position as Majority Leader seems to have abated, writes Carl Hulse in the New York Times

Do you remember when there was an attempt to change the house rules so an indictment would not mean removal from a leadership position? That was a while before Earle indicted DeLay. There was a lot of negative press about that effort.

It seemed very likely to me that if they did not revoke that rule, that Republican house members decided to stand by DeLay until his trial was over.

Someone surely pointed out that if the Republicans replaced DeLay then democrat prosecutors in other states would have a clear way to remove any effective Republican leader... Just indict him on some trumped up charges and he would be removed from office.

No I think the agreement from the get go was that they Republicans would hold Delay's job open for him until the trial was over.

Someone or even Tom Delay might act in the capacity of majority leader with out the title, but the title would remain open until the case was decided.

The Republicans surely realized that to fold would do far more damage to the Republican party than standing by Delay.

So what about all the stories in the media about all the candidates planning to run for Delay's job? That is media bias pure and simple. It was a thinly veiled media ploy designed to cause the Republican base to turn on members of the House.

There are two media tactics. They tell us things to make the Democrats look good. They tell us things to make the Republicans look bad. Lots of times both sets of stories are not true.

I submit there was never any Jockeying for DeLay's position as Majority leader. The vast majority of Republican house members look up to Tom Delay. They know how good he is at getting things done. They don't want him replaced. They want him back.

When it became clear that no one was trying to take Delay's job, the Times says the efforts to do so have abated.

Can't you build some sort of snow wall and ummmm, just keep it there?

Or set up a really, super duper sized heat generating blower and melt it all away before it gets here?

This storm is going to hit you real hard.

The good news is the storm will be a fast mover. Dendretic effect could add another 2" to the total in spots, but event should actually clear out about 12 hours after it starts.
