What was your first car?

The first car I ever drove was a red, 1962 Scout 4x4.

I remember we had to drive it to Salt Lake City in 1963 while my mother ran for Mrs. Utah. Whe was sooooo embarrassed! Little did she know she was 30 years ahead of her time and the SUV craze.

Mine was a late 70's yellow; manual (stick shift); diesel VW Rabbit.

It was really, really loud. You could hear me coming a couple blocks away and it was impossible pulling into the driveway after curfew with that thing.

I didn't have it long.

Now one would think being a 17 year old with a 6 year old '76 Dodge Aspen wouldn't get you many chicks.  You would be wrong!

It was lime green and completely stock except for the 200 Watt amp that routinely blasted AC/DC down the Jersey Shore.

However, I learned that if you don't drive drunk, bring home your dates on time and are willing to put up with a lot of chatter, girls will tell other girls who are willing to see past the facade and sit on each others laps to get to someplace cool (like an all-boys high school dance).  Ha!  I don't know if I was more popular with the girls or the guys at school when I would show up with a carload Catholic school girls!

I nearly cried when it was towed to it's final resting place in 1989.

Nah, I don't still have it. Blew up the engine in '69...being in college, couldn't afford to have it fixed. Had to settle for a '69 baby-blue VW bug (who didn't???).

Mine was black w/ black leather interior. Geez, what a babe magnet. And believe me, I needed all the help I could get...

A 1960 Ford Falcon station wagon – bought in 1964. It would go anywhere. No farmer’s field would stop it. No muddy back road would slow it down.

Then I bought my own car: '67 VW Squareback. I drove that car for a lot of years and a lot of miles.

In 1984 i bought a 1967 Chevy Chevelle, 4 door, 327 engine. Piece of crap, but my current ride ain't much better. At least i can park anywhere and do not have to fear it will be stolen.

1963 Ford 500, even a klutz like me could repair and maintain every single component. Paid $375 used and sold three years later for $425. The only car I ever made money on after using it everyday.

The two old cars that I drove in highschool were a 57 Dodge with the push button automatic (it would start in-gear as the interlock was broken -- made for cool getaways) and a 56 Pontiac Station wagon much like the Chevey you show. The station wagon would really lay rubber turning a corner due to the suspension -- made leaving a parking lot a joy of noise.

The brakes failed on that wagon once pulling into the local drive in resturant. Hit the walkway curb the car hops used, flew two feet in the air, and bounced to a stop in the parking space on the other side. I killed the engine and ordered on the speaker on the passager window side as if nothing had happened.
