I think we have the same musical tastes, Dennis, as I happen to know you are a big Kinkophile and Dylan too. Plus we share the same opinions on the Mideast.

Having said all that I was quoting another poster when I mentioned Wild Horses, not giving my own opinion.

Wild Horses was written when Gram Parsons was hanging out with the stones in the south of France. There is an undeniable Parson's influence on the song. I think Parsons made some statements that the song was written for him (not about him but for him).

Having said all that I'm not sure I'd take the FBB's version over the Stones'. I guess it's a taste thing but I do like the Stones version better.

Thanks for the tasteful comments. I'm a huge fan of the Byrds, Graham Parsons and Burrito Brothers from that era. The Stones years with Mick Taylor

Wild Horses was written when Gram Parsons was hanging out with the stones in the south of France.

The Stones rented a mansion and pursued music, sex and debauchery. They were there for tax avoidance reasons. Graham hung with Keith there. As far as I know he is on no official Stones records though the just as rootsy (and less stoned) Ry Cooder was, mostly on slide

The Kinks are way underated or not remembered enough today. Same for the Yardbirds. Both were big influences on other bands. Not to mention the parade of great guitarists that came out of the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Clapton! Can you believe that? Ever hear Chris Spedding?

I saw the Yardbirds at the Fillmore East once when Jimmy Page was playing with them. After about 2 songs, I said to myself, "that guitar player's not bad,...no,... sh*t, he's really, really good!" It was kind of obvious.

Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and the Sex Pistols are about the only bands that I didn't see that I wanted to. The first Led Zeppelin album with "Communication Breakdown" on it was revolutionary.
