I'm interested. I have severe arthritis of the spine. I don't know what excercises to do. It's hard to walk, but I love walking. Winter has kept me in the house, and finances keep me from getting a treadmill.

You're added! Congrats on your loss!

I know what you mean about bread products. Even though I do WW I still have to make sure I get a good amount of protein and keep bread and pasta to a minimum otherwise I just stop losing. If I do have some carbs I try to have it with some protein and some healthy fats, like olive oil.

Reading over the thread it seems people doing commercial diet plans Weight Watchers, Zone, South Beach, and Atkins seem to be the most popular. Many others have either cut calories and portions or cut out sugar and white flour.

I would love a treadmill, too. We have a teeny condo, so we don't really have the space for one. Someone else said they have feet problems and others suggested water aerobics. I do a program called Walk Away the Pounds on DVD. It's really low impact and they incorporate some arm exercises, too.

You misunderstood my dear phantom (sigh...it's so hard to get some people to understand science as well as I do..) The beer still has calories, but once the cold (hic) beer enters the body it burns off those calories as it (urp) heats up to the bodys temperature.

Also, if you drink if faster (hic-hic) more calories are consumed. Bonus: spicy hot wings helps along the process too! (hic-urp-bleeeech..)

Ahh!! So the faster you drink, the better!! And probably the more you drink, the faster you get? Now I get it.... Thanks!!!

(It reminds me of the time I told my son, who was about 3 or 4 at the time, that his grandpa was a cardboard box. He looked at me and said, Ahh!)

Care to tell us how you did it?

He lied.

Hey, kitten~ Would you add me to this ping list? I could use the support/encouragement.

While DH was gone to Afghanistan last year I had hoped to lose 30-40 pounds and be one svelte mama when he came home. *Sigh* Instead we had my nephew living with us while both of his parents were deployed and my stress level went through the roof. I didn't lose an ounce, but added fifteen more pounds and a lot more gray hair. Dang.

Atkins worked great for me once, but years later when I tried it again I couldn't lose very well. I've got plenty of books: Atkins, South Beach, Protein Power, Makers Diet, Carb Addicts, yada yada yada, but I've not been able to Just Do It. Perhaps with some FReeper motivation, I will.

You are added!!

I would imagine during a loved ones deployment is a hard time to lose weight. The stress level has to be really high. Hopefully, we can encourage each other to get healthy for the summer!

I took Centrum Complete or the store brand equivalent. I think they have a special blend now just for low carb dieters. Give that a try!

I've lost 50 lbs in 10 months by simply cutting out the junk food and using a Gazelle 3 times a week

That is inspiring to hear about. I hope to do the same.
