Does anyone here belong to a gym? I don't. I'm just wondering.

"Does anyone here belong to a gym?"

I don't, but Mrs. did last year. The best way is to join with a friend, and keep going.

Our city has a gym and offers classes, etc. Probably cheaper than the storefront type.

Yes, I joined in 2001 after losing 37lbs. I try to go 5 days a week, for at least an hour. Tomorrow will be my 6th day in a row. I'm working out with a trainer tomorrow and Saturday was the only day that we both had available.

Yes.

Go 4-5 days a week, do generally 2-3 days of Cardio 30 minutes plus cool down on the eliptical and 2 days of weight training. I also play sports 3 times a week.

I joined a gym at the beginning of this year, mainly to get back into shape before the start of the next sport season. I play various sports, but they have a break from early Nov to late Jan... and due to scheduling issues I hadn't played a sport that required serious cardio/endurance in nearly 9 months.. so I wanted to get back into shape and lose weight as well, as the sports were great, but I wasn't losing weigh with what I was doing.

The gym is a block from my office. I go during my lunch hour which is great, because it doesn't interfere with the rest of my day. If I had to go before work or after work I would very likely fall out of the habbit. It helped on two fronts, I NEED to get out of my office for my lunch hour daily, otherwise I'll go insane... and I found I was spending that hour in a sit down restraunt eating 500-700 calories daily for my lunch... So, the gym gave me something else to do with that time.. and now I pick up a bowl of soup after my workout and only eat about 100-150 cals for lunch at my desk, plus burn about 400-500 calories a workout as well... so double whammy.

Now I have lost weight in the past, mainly by just dieting and some moderate exercising, this is the first time I have consistently done weight training and cardio and this sort of activity level since high school.. This time however I have noticed that the weight is coming off much more slowly, even though I am far more active than I have been in a LONG LONG time. I suspect mostly it is due to muscle build up replacing fat loss in my early stage... I have been doing this now for about 2 months and I have only lost about 10-12 lbs... typically when I just diet I would lose that in 1 month.. however I am definately in MUCH better physical condition, and toner.

I am not one of those guys who loves the gym.. I hate it... but I can't argue with the results... It must be doing something, because my wife's friends are starting to make comments.. I think she's getting a bit nervous.
