guns don't chase and maul people... someone has to use a gun... a pitbull is like a self loading, self aiming and self triggering gun.... and those I would ban too.

(...please read leading article to this thread...)

A woman was walking on a cemented pathway at least 30 feet away from where a dog was unleashed, on a second-story deck. For whatever reason (the female dog owner was indoors and) the dog leapt over the railing and attacked the woman.

We heard screams and looked outside. My daughter and I watched this pit bull biting and chewing on the legs and arms of both the woman and the dog’s female owner. I had my daughter call 911, and through sobs she was able to provide information.

What the article did not state was, stick in hand, I ran to see what was going on (stick to protect myself if need be). The dog dragged the woman some 100 feet down an incline, into a chain link fence. I remained about 60 feet up the hill.

The police officer arrived and ran down to where the dog continued mauling the limp, nearly lifeless woman. He shouted and drew the dog's attention away from its prey. It finally stopped chewing and ripping on the woman's head (as if it were scalping her) and went toward the officer. He first fended it off with a MASSIVE stick, in what appeared to be an attempt to relocate the dog.

When the dog lunged at him a second time, the officer fired several shots, hitting the animal at least once. It amazed me how quickly this animal continued to jump and run... very much like one of the video links posted.

After being hit, the dog began to run UP the hill where I was standing amongst some trees... I had begun moving further away when I saw the officer draw his weapon. HAD I NOT BEEN THERE, the officer certainly would have continued to fire. The dog came toward me, and I swung the stick back and forth shouting, “No!” repeatedly. When the officer got near me the dog ran home.

At this point a neighbor I had summoned and I started toward the woman: down the slippery, muddy slope to help. There was blood everywhere - covering her head, face, neck, arms, legs... her shredded jacket up the hill, a shoe here, notebook there.

Of course, there are more grisly details to the story… neighbors have reported that the owners who had two pit bulls were known to "knee" the animals in the face and chest as "discipline." (AKA ABUSE)

I’ve spoken with the victim and her husband a number of times. She spent weeks in the burn unit with open wounds to facilitate proper healing… she has a strong faith and good spirits, but no one knows if she’ll ever “recover.”

…I’ve been reading these posts for months, now… I just had to finally say something.
