Madison and jefferson did not live in a nation overrun by millions of people trying to make this country something else.

They did not live in a time when people would fly airplanes full of civilians into buildings full of civilians.

You are trying to make that time and this time the same. This shows how you cannot make a rational argument in todays world against an ID that is secure and real, not to mention exclusive to you.

What I am is a conservative american that belives in the very fabric of this nation. that is to say the RULE OF LAW and the fact that when people break the law they should be held to account for that action.

Here is a question for you. Do you belive in the rule of law and that people should be held to account for the actions they take? IF as you claim ID is off limits i would like for youto explain to me how people are to be held to account for the actions they take! Lets hear the alternative that qualifies your opposition. Sure haven't heard anything from you yet EXCEPT what it is you whine about like that little first grader you talked about!

Who is taskes with prosecuting people to the tune of their personal responsibility for the action they take? The government right? The judicial branch of government right?

You either want them to have the tools to do the job they are tasked with or you don't. Which is it? Care to outline the tools they have to do the job they are tasked with that you approve of? My guess is you will not.

They fail to prosecute illegals becasue there is no form of ID available to allow that prosecutuion. The employers use that same excuse when they hire these folks. It is time to eliminate that excuse with an ID that can facilitate prosecution for actions taken.

THAT is what people really fear when it comes to ID. THey are just to scared to admit that!

"The New Hampshire Senate yesterday voted to reject a bill to rebel against the Real ID system and not participate in a pilot program for which the state had been tapped."

I don't know about the 'mark of the beast' part, but it's good to see NH standing against the Fed Gov.

A conservative American who is for the federal goverment poking it's nose into every aspect of your life in the hope that criminals will somehow start obeying laws because of some ID card, that's rich.

We already have laws that say entering this country illegally is illegal, and that flying airliners into buildings is illegal, and that using someone else's identity is illegal and so and so forth. You don't advocate rule of law, you advocate bigger and more intrusive federal government, yet you call yourself a conservative.

I laugh at you as you ignore the criminals ( and I would bet terrorists too as they are criminals) and target the government as your enemy.

The founders cannot be said to have taken into account in their writings about today. They had ZERO concept of life today and I offer to you that is why the constitution was written as it was.

GO on and cite for me all the writings of our founders as to how they would have dealt with people that would fly planes into buildings. Please tell me how they would have written about to govern a nation of 300 million people.

Then, please show me all their writings about personal computers and hacking. SHEESH man this is 2006 not 1776. Claiming that time means nothing is simply ignoring reality and saying that context does not matter. You can live that way if you chose just don't expect me to do so.

I don't care. What was good enough for these brilliant men is OK by me.

If you'd rather be safe than free, then you're no patriot. Like Franklin said, you deserve neither.

Osama, zarqawi and zawahiri agree.( you think that isn't true?) SO does everyone else that benefits from the USA targeting itself instead of them.

State issued DL's and ID.

And I NO biometrics or magnetic strips. Just a picture is OK.

I'm not whining, by the way. I believe in law and order as much as you do. I suggest you read my profile page. I just have a little more respect for the LIMITATIONS the Constitution puts on the government, that's all.

Do you consider the constitution to be a "living document"?

When it comes to what an American really is, and what the Constitution really means...time DOES stand still, dawg.

I'm stating only that all legal Americans have a national ID number already, it's use is another issue. The desire for a national ID card only circumvents the government doing its job of protecting our borders and prosecuting those who break our laws. I agree with your post.

If my ID sits in a database along with everyone elses how exactly are they probing into every aspect of my life? How is it you think they have the time or even the will to do such a thing?

We already have laws that say entering this country illegally is illegal

How od you prosecute it without an ID?

using someone else's identity is illegal

How do you prosecute it without an ID?

you advocate bigger and more intrusive federal government

Advocating one fundtioning ID in the place of several lacking ID's we have today is advocating for LESS and smaller governemtn sir NOT more. Care to try again? Indeed it is you arguing to kjeep what we have as the one that advocates larger government.

I have many Id's today. FOID, driving, Voters registration, hunting, fishing, banking, taxing, social security........ I want to REPLACE all these with ONE ID so tell me again how I am trying to AUGMENT rather than shrink?

That's a joke.......that situation is not even close to what we're discussing........what's next, are you going to say that anyone who doesn't want a national ID is a potential rapist or terrorist because they really shouldn't have anything to hide?

Pictures alone have proven not to be reliable. But then you simply do not care about that right?

Of course you are for limiting the government as you consider them your first enemy. Fine you can live that way.

Criminals are my first enemy and I want them held to account for what they do and yes that included government officials when they act illegally. ID is needed to prosecute criminals, ifyou are not a criminals ID does not affect you in any way negatively. In reality it helps you out in many ways. But like you said, you do not care.

Ok I understand.
