Don't give me this 'unforgeable' nonsense either, if it's made it can be forged. Seen anybody forge a $20 bill lately?
An encrypted RFID chip in a plastic ID card could be virtually unforgeable.

Didn't people say this about SS numbers too?
And then credit cards?

Imagine all the wonderful new taxation opportunities and departments of vice once RF tags are implanted under the skin of every newborn child (and eventually every fetus, perhaps). Put a biochemical sensor in it as well (there are tiny ones now, the size of a grain of rice) and you can impose cholesterol, fat, sugar, tabacco, booze, or whatever other tax the nanny-state wants.Crispus you were asking "what whackjobs"?
I give you, Exhibit A.

virtually unforgeable"Virtually unforgeable" is an oxymoron, it's either unforgeable or it isn't. People still get busted for forged bills all the time.

Not this crap again! Who's wackier, the people who think we need yet another ID system or the folks who think its a plot by satan? I got a million IDs, from a SS# all the way to my gym membership plan. Satan is one busy fella.

IOW, if all else fails, the 2A gives us the right to raise a "militia' to take on the government. I wonder when or if we will exercise these rights.
I'd ask to have this post pulled, if I were you.

But detractors note the cards are virtual national IDs since the federal law has dictated what data must be included and that each state must share its database with the others. My state also requires the SSN as a condition to issue a driver's license or ID card.
Furthermore, IIRC, HR 4437 also requires two additional federal databases to be created, linked to our SSN. The federal databases will include 'personal identifiers' on top of Social Security information, IRS records, driving records, etc.
HR 4437 also proposes a pictured SSN card.
National ID is here. The Republican politicians want it

Is coming national ID 'mark of the beast'?
An assault on civil liberties and the Constitution? Yes. The mark of the beast? No. I believe the beast referred to in Revelation was Rome generally, Nero specifically.

Some of these same people have conniption fits over illegal immigration, yet don't want a simple way to identify who's illegal and who is not
They want congress and the president to do their jobs. Since the sole purpose of this government, as defined by our founders, is to protect individual rights, then taking away those rights so the globalists in our government can merge us with a foreign nation is clearly an affront.

I'm not worried about it being the mark of the beast unless they stamp 666 (or some other such thing) on my hand or forehead. And tell me to renounce God. If it doesn't have those conditions its not the mark.

Why not just make a passport that is the size of a DL?
IF you are a citizen you have the passport, if you are not a citizen you have your resident alien card, if you are a tourist or visitor you have the I-94 (or I-94w) card.

The "Patriot Act" was written by those New Conservative Heros, Gary Hart and Andrew Young. It was sitting around until there was a triggering event and then passed by the GOP led Congress. Calling the Internal Security or Federal Police Expansion act would have made The People nervous. Something more soothing (Patriot, Homeland) was needed.

How long before we are required to carry "domestic passports" in order to fly, ala the 1070s Soviet Union?Late 2009. Also for driving across state lines. Also for hotel registration and purchase of guns, or fertilizer.
