When you steal from a MilBlogger Posted By Blackfive ...you're going to get busted.
I believe that many of you will recognize the photo on the cover of Shock Magazine.
[see below]
That's right. Stolen from Michael Yon. When I asked about it, Mike sends:
The publisher, HFM, is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world with over 200 magazines and newspapers in 33 countries. This is a major launch with an initial print run of 300,000.
Personally, I think Mike is more pissed about the photo being used for some kind of political agenda than getting ripped off. Then, again, stealing from an SF type is not advised...my new slogan for HFM is below...put yours in the Comments.
HFM - "Stealing the Shock."
Here's the link to Shock Magazine - it is not work safe.
More to follow...
Update: Someone should *ahem* start calling about this egregious error. The number for HFM is (212) 767-6000.
Email Shock at shock@neodata.com and inbox@shocku.com.
Let's tell 'em what we think. It's bad enough they steal a guy's work--a guy who paid his own way to go over and tell our troops' side of the war story. But to steal the photo and use it to illustrate an "Iraq is a Vietnam Quagmire" story...that's disgusting.

Disgusting indeed. Thank you for the info Choose Ye This Day.
Is Mr. Yon going to sue? Do they have this posted or advertised online? He can contact the server host and have it removed under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.
I couldn't see it on their site. I think it's going to be on their next har-copy printing. Not sure.
I checked, it is displayed on www.shocku.com on the upper right.
Frankly, they owe Mr. Yon some money and he is in a position to hurt them and get some people fired. He should find himself a talented IP lawyer that will work for a contingency fee and put the squeeze on them.
What kind of moron steals a photo for the cover of magazine's premiere issue? Answer: an unemployed one.
Old commie trick. It would seem former staffers at Pravda have found jobs in the West.

BUMP!!!

(1) The original settlement was for the magazine to make a donation to Fisher House, which provides low cost accomodations near major military hospitals for families of wounded troops.
(2) HOWEVER, the magazine reneged on the settlement. Please check Michael's website calling for a boycott of and email contacts with all the other magazines put out by this French conglomerate. (Car & Driver, Road & Track, Woman's Day and many others.)Please spread the word about this atrocious disrespect of our troops
