Need software recommendation
6/9/06

Posted on 06/09/2006 10:52:19 AM PDT by pabianice

I have my PC on my business phone line. The line has an answering machine. I need a fax software package that will let me use my PC to send/receive faxes with an answering machine on the same line. The software I have does not allow an answering machine to use the same phone line as the fax uses.

Thanks.

Try e-fax. I use it to send and receive faxes when I travel and it's very convenient

You may just need to adjust the rings -- have the fax pick up on 2, the answering machine pick up on 4, etc.

If you want your fax modem to distinguish between incoming faxes and voice calls, you will need to implement Call Discrimination. This is usually done with Distinctive Ring (DR). Distinctive ring is a service from your telephone provider to allow two or more numbers to share one line, with each number having a different ring pattern. If your fax modem has voice capabilities, then it will distinguish between faxes and voice calls by recognizing the incoming ring pattern. Check out modemsite for more info.
