Suspect arrested in JonBenet death

A man arrested in Thailand is being held in connection with the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, law enforcement officials said today. Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke with the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the man was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges.

A source close to the case identified the suspect as one-time resident of Conyers, Ga., and said he was a school teacher.

The source said that authorities had been focusing on him for some time and that Patsy Ramsey had been made aware prior to her death on June 24 that his arrest was being pursued.

The girl was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the family’s home in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 26, 1996.

Law enforcement officials from Boulder were flying to Bangkok to present Thai authorities with documents in the slaying of the 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant, officials in Washington said. They asked to remain anonymous pending an announcement in Colorado.

The girl’s parents, Patsy and John Ramsey, had been under an "umbrella of suspicion" in JonBenet’s death. The Ramseys said an intruder killed their daughter. A grand jury investigation in Boulder ended with no indictments, and no arrests had been made in the case.

Patsy Ramsey died in July.

In 2003, U.S. District Judge Julie Carnes in Atlanta concluded that the evidence she reviewed suggested an intruder killed JonBenet. That opinion came with the judge’s decision to dismiss a libel and slander lawsuit against the Ramseys by a freelance journalist, who the Ramseys had named as a suspect in their daughter’s murder. The Boulder district attorney at the time said she agreed with Carnes’ declaration.

Ah, the Boulder Police. The former Attorney General of Colorado was hired by the Ramsey's to be their defense attorney.

Wasn't there semen on her underwear? I remember some DNA testing being done.

That is interesting.

People confess to crimes, especially famous crimes, all the time. In order for officials to go around the world to interrogate and maybe even DNA test this guy suggests he is different from the others.

And I doubt they could get the Thai government to release him to Denver Police without some mighty strong evidence.

Yep.

And one of them is how LITTLE the the journalists and therefore public actually know despite the 24/7 news coverage.

It's definitely not a good thing.

Maurice Terry's Ultimate Evil is about JOHN CARR AND DAVID BERKOWITZ. The following review is quoted from Amazon.com:

From the Publisher On August 10, 1977, the NYPD arrested David Berkowitz for the "Son of Sam" murders that had terrorized New York City for more than thirteen months. Berkowitz eagerly confessed to being a lone marauder¿one who had carried out eight senseless shootings with a .44 caliber Bulldog revolver. The case was officially closed. Journalist Maury Terry was suspicious of Berkowitz's confession. He has spent the years since that summer researching the case, meticulously gathering evidence to demonstrate that the killer did not act alone. In The Ultimate Evil, Terry details the chilling events, proving that Berkowitz was an affiliate of¿and triggerman for¿a Satanic cult known as the Process Church of the Final Judgment. Terry's work not only uncovers the cult's involvement in the "Son of Sam" murders but also finds their signature on other ritual slayings across the country. Since the first publication of The Ultimate Evil in 1987, new evidence about the Process Church has emerged. From his prison cell, David Berkowitz has now confirmed Maury Terry's conclusions, making this updated edition even more extraordinary. As Terry untangles the dense web of information to expose the frightening extent of the Process Church's reach, he also reveals its continuing underground existence today.

Patsy Ramsey killed Jon Benet by accident.....

I have spent hours and hours reviewing different websites. Too much time for my mental health. Finally, when I was clear of it, now this.

This may be to digress but..... I have noticed a peculiar reaction by people in certain cases. One may say that the second moon landing is to be questioned. (I demure on that one). The vituperation against those who do question it, boggles the mind.

The case, which is as big as Jon Benet, maybe bigger is Steven Truscott in Canada. He was twice convicted of strangling a 12 year old girl in 1959. He was only 14 years old then.

At one's peril one might say he is likely guilty. It falls just short of an assault to say it. The drums are beating and a hearing just over- ten to one, he will collect millions in reparations for 11 years in jail. Only one website exists as to his guilt. 500 declare his innocence.

Like me, you have an oppinion. The bottom line is that simply put, only John Ramsey really knows- one way or the other. Sure, there could be the nasty, vile predator who knows. Just as in Truscott's case, there could be a 70 odd year pedophile, who knows.

None of us really know. We can have a gut feeling though. I secretly cry for Patsy Ramsey.

Someone breaks into a home, writes a ransom note, throws away the first draft, rewrites the ransome note, kills the child and hides it in the basement? To what end was the ransom note? Kidnappers do just that....they kidnap. Nothing in this case ever pointed to anyone outside that home

Why are you assuming the person who did that was sane? Is it not possible that someone who is sexually aroused by and kills little children might just be a wee bit insane?

Could be true, but I have walked the streets of Pattaya, Thailand and it can be a scary place.

And before you ask why I was there, I will tell you. I was there on a MIA recovery mission into Laos. Its easier to fly into another country then move into Laos.

Fox is reporting that she knew this was in the works. I believe that is from John Ramsey's statement.

I have always felt that the rush to judgment against the Ramseys was class envy pushed by the Pageant angle and nurtured by several concurrent stories of mother's killing their children.

As far as the press goes, it's the same dynamic that makes "reality" tv, not truly reality...but a story made up in post production. I laugh every time someone says "I totally did not see that coming."

John Carr, one of the MAJOR actors.

John Carr is a pretty common name.

In 1930, there were 1,912 people names "John Carr" in the United States and that does not include variations on spellings or misspellings.
Today, there are 6,042 John Carr's in the public record index for the US.

It would seem to me that you have an awfully huge investment in this arrest not being correct.

Uhm. If he is a he, and she is a she...he would be a heterosexual pedophile.

Gay has nothing to do with it. Claiming that only weakens reasonable public policy arguments in other areas.
