Suspect's life in Sonoma County (John Karr)
The Press Democrat ^ | Aug. 17, 2006 | Kerry Benefield, Lori A. Carter, Robert Digitale

Four years after the murder of JonBenet Ramsey became one of the most talked about crimes of the decade, John Mark Karr began working as a substitute teacher in Sonoma County schools.

Karr's brief stay in local schools ended about four months later when he was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography.

After he was arrested Wednesday in Thailand in connection with the 1996 slaying of the former child beauty queen, school officials rifled through files for details, old neighbors fielded dozens of questions from the media and a former landlord recalled a visit from police in 2001.

Karr, who lived in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, has been wanted in Sonoma County since December 2001 when he failed to show up for a court hearing in the pornography case.

At least one acquaintance believes Karr was living in Santa Rosa as late as 2003. And when his teaching credential was revoked in April 2003, a letter was sent to a Ronne Drive address in Santa Rosa.

"He lived here two years ago for a period of two weeks," said Herb Willsmore of Santa Rosa.

This "breakthrough" arrest has hoax written all over it. Karr is a narcissistic failure seeking attention and fame.

There was a rash of unsolved young girl kidnappings in the Bay Area in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Amber, Michaela, Eileen, Angela. Then they stopped suddenly and comletely. I wonder if this guy.....

In another article it said that John Karr was not permitted to see his children at all. This article says he was allowed supervised visits, although since he's been on the run since 2001 it sounds like he hasn't seen his kids since then. Thankfully.

A judge is not going to sign an arrest warrant for a suspect in Thailand because a kook confesses. There is more to it that has not been made public.

Look at the 'Duke Rape' case. They got an arrest warrant without any evidence whatsoever.

He was allegedly living in Alabama at that time.

According to the conference Mary "No Comment" Lacy gave this morning (she's the Colorado DA prosecuting this case), apparently they've been after this guy for months, and she sort of hinted that there was a chance he might have taken off if they hadn't jumped in when they did and arrested him.
(The US authorities were working with the Thai authorities.)

Please tell me you can see the difference in these two cases.
We are talking about involving the federal authorities and those of a foreign government. Also the difference in the two prosecutors in these cases. Nilfong had reasons to "embellish" and Lacy has cause to be extra cautious.

The DA, Boulder police and sheriff have been incompetent from day one. This guy didn't turn himself in. Professor Michael Tracey did. Journalism prof from Boulder. Who happened to do several "documentaries" exonerating John and Patsy. Who just happens to have a book coming out... Follow the money.

He was on the run from a child pornography conviction in California. That itself is enough to bring him back to the states.

Isn't Thailand notorious as pedophile-friendly?

But isn't it comforting to know that he was a substitute teacher in Sonoma of all places... great hiring background checks. I would like to know the connection from Denver to California to Thailand????

A published timeline of his activities...what a list. What a walking crime waiting to happen.

Mary (I still want to say Keenan) Lacy also said - contrary to what Thai officials had said and others had reported - that he had started his first day of teaching at an international school in Bangkok on Tuesday.

(The others said it couldn't be confirmed whether he had applied for or gotten a teaching job there.)

I believe that was the hurry-up signal to do something before any children were hurt.

Also, the Petaluma neighbor quoted in the story has given a number of additional interviews on TV.

In one I saw today, she said he never played with his children as long as he lived there.

He was never permitted to see his kids again after the police came and took him away. The mother would not allow it.

The timeline fails to mention that he was fired from a daycare job because of allegations that he was molesting the little girls. This was the catalyst that brought them to California.

Yes! Bill O'Reilly reran a segment he had done on Thailand back in 1991. It had quite a reputation even then.

Not to mention Bill had hair then.
