I believe it is inserted into the rope, and then used to twist the rope, tighting it with each twist.
Good observation. But remember, if there is no laceration a heart beat doesn't matter. It won't bleed externally. It's an internal injury. Maybe the coroner's report is wrong.
Thank you....were the rope attached to her hands part of the garrot?.....
The swelling (or lack thereof). Interesting.
Strangled, then thrown down like a discarded toy, knocking her head against something?
...but swelling will occur and there was no swelling...
That's what I was thinking, but wait a minute. If she died after the head trauma is that not the same thing as dying of asphyxia with respect to swelling? Maybe her head didn't swell b/c the head trauma killed her. The take-away from the pathologists reports is that they don't know for sure what the sequence was, or which, if both, killed her.
Possible, but again, figure the odds. A freak head injury the same night an intruder breaks in...odd

That's a good question....the docs didn't address that....but they did say that the head trauma would have caused brain death, if she hadn't been strangled.....but being brain dead does not stop neccessarily your heart......if this goes to trial there will be an endless parade of pathologists, dna experts and handwriting experts...
Sitting with her on the stairs refers to his story that he was at a party at the Ramseys on the 23 of Dec. at which he showed her coin tricks and gained her trust. It isn't refering to the night of the murder.
Agreed. And the problem with experts is that you can always find one to support just about any pet theory. I'm not sure what to think b/c what if the pathologists are wrong? What if I'm reading it wrong? I don't know but it's all a mess.
Nancy Grace is reporting that the Boulder LEO contaminated the only dna evidence in this case.....I have no idea what she is talking about yet.
think of a large twist tie from a garbage bag, with each turn it gets slightly tighter. If you wanted to twist it down super tight you need something to help you do that like a pair needle nose pliers or something slid between the twists of the tie to make a handle so you could twist the tie easier and hold the twist so that it would not spin backwards causing the tension to release.
Thanks. If the head trauma is as described by the pathologists, I think we've got a "hum-dinger" of oddities going on that night. The Ramseys couldn't have been 'luckier' without an intruder dropping by. I think it is beyond reasonable belief that we can assume that BOTH an intruder dropped by and such a rare head trauma just happened to occur at about the same time the intruder killed her. That's fantastic.
That might be what I heard earlier today? There was something about the instrument used to get the DNA off of JBR was already contaminated, so they ruined the sample. The only sample extant in the case is a small blood sample which is not sufficient for positive ID...
BTW it is called a garrotte
Look at it this way....some people have suggested that Burke hit her with a baseball bat and in panic the parents staged the death scene...if that were to have happen, by the time they thought out what to do and then stage the scene JBR's head would have been swelling and leaving enough pathological evidence that she was hit in the head before strangled.
Nancy Grace will be discussing this later on her evening show...
thanks for the correction
