I suppose that depends on what the "entire scientific discipline" really consists of . .

I suppose that depends on what the "entire scientific discipline" really consists of.The collected scholarship of every scientific field, from astronomy to zoology says the world is older than 6000 years. But this 17th century Bishop says otherwise...

Buried in Westminster Abbey Is that a special feature of the book, or the author?

This sounds like a great book. I don't believe that Aeneas, son of Venus, fled Ilium to deliver Italia into the Julian bloodline -- but I read the Aeneid anyway. Ancient historical history is a type of history all its own. (Even if Ussher did ignore the huge gap of time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 and the potential for skipped generations in the genealogies.)

Well, interestingly enough, we can thank the Greeks for the whole idea of a flat earth, but I'd say the analogy compares a lot to those who support Darwin's theory of creation through tautological magic.

You are assuming there is a gap in Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2...he apparently did not make such an assumption..

He was probably the most important Anglican churchman in the period of 1575-1850.And he's right... but virtually every scientist since 1820 working in every field is totally wrong?

Looks like Neanderthal man never existed. The last Ice Age never occurred, and the 7500 year old pottery must have been made by the devil.
Of course, it's entirely possible that God made the world yesterday and planted our minds with false memories of what happened before.
I wonder how he knows that did not happen?
To: Conservative Coulter Fan
Ussher concluded there must be good reason for this (the Jewish tradition of the calendar beginning in Autumn),
so he chose the first Sunday following autumnal equinox. So he just flat out guessed? I'm sold!

There was no time before the Big Bang. "Time" was created along with everything else.

I think you are right...but after all, those first six days were really frantic...didn't have time to make many notes...

It's only that old if you copletely ignore proven physics and use an old scientifically illiterate churchman as the authority for the age of the planet.

That would explain the bruise I have that I have no recollection of getting.
