Looks like the Dems got their wish. And to no good purpose. He was executing the strategy, and only partially creating it.
If he had resigned a few months ago, it might have made some difference in the election, but resigning now is not going to make the Dems or the Drive By Media love George Bush, or embrace Rumsfeld's replacement.

I have asked vets about MacArthur and Patton, and the results were always 50-50! This even after the fact, all these years later! In truth, many anti-MacArthur and Patton vets said so only because they "broke" the chain of command by speaking out of turn.

I sincerely appreciate Donald Rumsfeld and the way he absorbed all of the unwarranted criticism in the interest of keeping this nation safe. History will vindicate this man. God bless him.

Mr Rumsfeld,
You have been an inspiration to those of us who understand the obstacles you faced in trying to modernize this military. You will be sorely missed.
My apologies to you that the majority in this country were too ignorant to understand the good you have done. This is most certainly THEIR loss, not yours.
Now go make millions in a press-free environment. You surely deserve it.

Rumsfield was a good Defense Secretary but the Iraq situation needs a new game plan.
Bush should of fired him months ago.
I will miss his press conferences!

Thank you, Mr. Rumsfeld, for your great services to this country. And for your remarkable successes in Afghanistan and Iraq.
You will never be appreciated by people who don't understand the need for defense.

Secretary Rumsfeld. It is with a heavy heart, we bid you farewell. You've been our strength in this War, and the total essence of what "Duty, Honor and Country" stand for.
We salute you, Sir!

I agree. If he was going to resign, it should have been before the election.
I'm really going to miss him. Secretary Rumsfeld has twice offered his resignation to President Bush but the president did not accept it at the time.
Wouldn't you have wanted to be a fly on the president's wall in the past month or so?
Well, forward let's go and don't forget that Saturday is Veterans Day. Find a Vet and thank him or her.
