I have the menu on the island in the kitchen. Now I need to do some shopping. One of the boys will bring the turkey for smoking and have a friend in So. Texas who will bring a turkey, so I'll do the veggies. I have a couple of cakes in the freezer, all I have to do to them is thaw and frost. Have the pumpkin pies ready, did the lemon liquer in the fridge, "aging". The egg nog is ready and cooling, have a couple of fruit breads for sleep over guests, have the SOS in the freezer ready to thaw and heat, need to go to Corsicana and get one of their wonderful fruit cakes.

Tonight the boys are going to begin decorating for Christmas. They'll put up the big gree in the living room and put the lights on it. Thanksgiving eve we light it along with the rest of the decorations. It takes us a week to put up the trees and seems like weeks to take them down.

Toby your Christian dinner sounds like a good idea.

Gee. I thought the Red Hat thing was good. All they do is gather together shop, have lunch or just get together for fellowship.

DG, and Utah Girl, it is good to have you here again. Utah Girl, I left a message on yesterday's thread for you.

while out in the car, I heard a report that the US Bishops have issued a statement calling for Peace and Justice in Iraq, not victory.Who knows if this accurately represents their postition...I'll check...

And prairie, 2 Presbyterian churches in my area are exiting the national church organization. One of the ministers described it as leaving the Titanic....

Well, I've done a bunch of stuff...yardwork, made beef soup...and may go to see the new Russell Crowe movie later...a romantic comedy! Sounds like a picker-upper, no??

lysie, enjoy the concert tonite!!!

Well, here's the Bishops' statement so everyone can judge for themselves...

Kayak: Yes, the poor crime victim. Illegals flock to Colorado in droves due to lax enforcement. I was there in August. Stopped at a McDonald's in Denver to order a shake before we headed over the mountains to Vail. Asked the gal if she knew what time the sun would set. She didn't understand a word I said.

tillacum: Ha, that's good. They are every bit as racist as the KKK (not to the extent of hanging and the other heinous methods), but no one will call them on it. Must not upset anyone.

I want a do-over.

Not knowing the pet situation when we built this house we went with an attached garage. Do-over. I want a do-over!! I want a huge breezeway/mudroom attached to the house and then the garage.

Just read it. Thanks.

While not addressing a specific timeline for withdrawal of troops, Bishop Skylstad stated that the military should remain in Iraq “only as long as their presence contributes to a responsible transition. Our nation should look for effective ways to end their deployment at the earliest opportunity consistent with this goal.”

What am I missing? Isn't that our President's goal?

HI Peach! Iam doing Thanksgiving twice this year since my Dad wil be here this week-end but not for Thanksgiving Day. On Sunday I have 11 coming to dinner and on Thursday, I have a possible 22 coming to dinner. I started writing down my menu yesterday that I had in my head. I need to pick up the odds and ends for the "4 course + coffee" meal I make. We'll have two coolers, one forthe beverages and one forthe cold dishes that will sit on the porch until the last minute. We re doing a semi-buffet/ sit down dinner on Thursday and a sit down on Sunday! Plan! Plan! Plan!

Each year for Thanksgiving and Christmas I do everything (try to, can't top it)my dear Gram did and a little more. Greg will not eat butternut squash or rutabaga so , I add peas and corn. Thank goodness, he does eat the traditional cabbage salad along with the potatoes, dressing, etc.

My favorite meals.. of all times!

Our 13 year old niece likes to cook and my sister is a good cook too so this year, I'll have helpers! Glad you reminded me about the cooler -- I've just put ice on the list and will remember to use the cooler.

We have a little kitchen outside on the veranda and I can keep some things in that refrigerator too. We haven't been able to use that at the holiday in years past because it was always loaded with beer for the golfer friends who go by the house but we've emptied that out since my sister is here so have more space.

This morning I've pulled out all the decorative items and candles and looked at notes from last year to see how I decorated the serving counter in the kitchen. I got inspired last year and am glad I wrote stuff down because I'd never have remembered what it is I did. LOL

lysie: I end up doing all of the items that are favorites of family members too; pineapple fluff, stuffed celery, deviled eggs, pickled beets and pickled cuccumber salad are a few. The list gets longer each year. This year we are doing Thanksgiving for Mr HOB's family, so I have asked for help in making those favorite dishes like Kahl (sp) that I do not do well.

Peach, glad to be of some help in reminding you of the cooler. I used to have a second refrigerator in the townhouse that I don't have here. But I do have a kitchen that is horseshoe shaped where I can start the buffet at one end and finish at the other so people can go right to a seat at the tables. I am undecided if I am going to use the charger plates to indicate where guests should sit. I wonder if that would be confusing for some.

And if it's warm, we can always go onto the front porch! I usually end up opening my bedroom, TV room and the entire great room where there are TV's so all can get a good seat for the game after dinner. Remeber, I live in a Manufactured home so it is not as big as other members of the family's homes!

till, are you ready?

I assume in many places it is like that. Not here. Hence my bad attitude.

If the groups in other places act differently, that's fine with me. I didn't mean to diss everyone who belongs.

Jemian just hit a hot button with me, too!

All I have to do is mash 10 pounds of potatoes and make a Waldorf salad. My brother is in charge of Thanksgiving and he does the turkey, dressing, gravy, and vegetables. The rest of us bring other dishes and desserts, so it is a pretty easy holiday for me.

Christmas Eve is my big meal holiday, and I am already preparing.

Forgive me once again for unloading on you.

What? What does it take to satisfy some people?

She wasn't happy at her own house. She wasn't happy at our house. And, after talking to the people..nurses...at the assisted living home today, she's keeping them ..all shifts..busy, too...not happy.

Saddens me, immensely.

My mom asked for so little.

Yes, I'm sobbing, at this moment..but don't worry, I'll be back. All I want to do is knock some sense into her.

Wow! i can't imagine doing a big meal on Christmas Eve although I've been tempted to do the seven fishes meal for some time. When we stop going to my s-i-l's house on Christmas Eve, I probably will try that. I am trying to gracefully get out of going to her house every Christmas Eve. After 10+ years of it, I'd like to celebrate with hubby's family on another day.

oh lysie, I am so sorry. I hope this doesn't mean she is coming back to you , does it? That does sound selfish, but somethimes we need to be selfish for our own good.
