Florida's national title chances rely on voters

ATLANTA -- Michigan had its chance against Ohio State and lost. Southern California couldn't even beat its struggling rival on Saturday, so the Trojans won't get an opportunity to play the No. 1 Buckeyes more than a month from now.

Florida is next in line, and after beating Arkansas 38-28 in Saturday night's SEC championship game at the Georgia Dome, the Gators deserve the opportunity to play Ohio State in the Jan. 8 BCS title game in Glendale, Ariz.

Florida finished 12-1 against one of the country's toughest schedules, won its first SEC title since 2000 and lost one game in a conference that is still regarded the sport's toughest from top to bottom.

"We certainly do," Florida coach Urban Meyer said when asked Saturday night whether he believes the Gators should get a chance to play Ohio State. "Florida belongs. The other team had a shot. We went 12-1, and I think the country wants to see the Southeastern Conference champion against the Big 10 champion. I think that's what this is all about."

But because of college football's inept system of determining which two teams will play for the national championship, voters around the country will decide Sunday whether the Gators or Wolverines will play the Buckeyes in the Arizona desert.

Let me get this straight , because Michigan voted demo , Michigan"s football team deserves to suffer for it . That is rich! Look Charlie I voted for Bush twice and worked door to door for him and I guess you will never need the conservative demo votes ever. Bud you better look at the books there are more demos then there are reps. Country club reps like you are the reason we lost this time. MICHIGAN IS THE BETTER TEAM , but you will find that out in January. Can you say Shermans march to the sea? How about Tressel's march though Fl. Don't worry I will not insult you reps anymore I will vote either demo or ind., you don't need my vote, or my political donation .

They will make it, sure there will be arguments but its a better argument than giving Myth a rematch against OSU.

Michigan is still Number 1. Fl = losers, winners ,cry babies and you have to cheat to get a bowl bid. How many crooks are going to play in the game. Go Buckeyes, course the Buckeyes will win all they are playing is a bunch of stupid people who don't know how to vote and clowns.

I just posted this on the other thread as well:

Just doing a little number crunching...Since we already know the results of the Coaches poll, and we can pretty well guess at the computer polls (OSU - 1; Mich - .95; Flor - .93), we can then figure out how Harris must turn out.

It looks like the Coaches + computers will put Michigan ever so slightly ahead (by .0017 by my calculations). Hence, Florida needs at least 62 (of 114) 2nd place votes in the coaches poll. Last week USC had 89 and Michigan had 25, so that's very achievable...should be razor close.

In fact, if the Harris poll favors Florida by the same margin as the Coaches poll, they'll be in second. But if it favors Florida by the same margin as the AP poll, Michigan will remain in second.

Michigan is still Number 1

I totally agree. That November 18 loss to the Buckeyes meant nothing at all./

Kind of hard to guess the computers since they change alot every week and they still havent been updated, per my last check. The extra game for Florida can change the computer formulas alot. Harris still isnt out either, if they give Florida the second place they will take it. Guessing never does good with the BCS, ever not once since they have started. But I hope to god it isnt Michigan, they had there shot, its Floridas time now, at least they are a conference champion.

Going to be awful hard for them to go if Michigan doesnt go to the BCS Title game, Rose has first picks and Michigan will be the first in line for an at large.

The LA Times is reporting it's Florida, so it appears there will not be a rematch.

If the news is true about Florida, Michigan will go to the Rose Bowl. Besides being a better team, the Wolverines will be the choice for econmic reasons also.

The Rose I Think are contractually obligated to pick the PAC and BIG 10 Champ. USC is the PAC Champ but Michigan is not. It wouldn't surprise me if that happened. Look at all of the revenue that Los Angeles would loose is LSU didn't go. By the same token New Orleans will not make much revenue if LSU came to the Sugar. It would not surprise me if the Rose and the Sugar are in the process of making a deal. Michigan to Sugar to play Louisville and ND to Orange to play Wake Forest.

Also I saw on the Rivals site that they have those match ups

GOod god woman , let it go - MIchigan had thier shot and LOST! Let someone else get thier ass kicked by OSU and be happy with a thrashing of USC in the Rose Bowl. Unless you want to watch Michigan get beat again, because believe me the only ones that want to see that are in Michigan or Big 10 fans.

Yup, Florida gets to play for the BCS championship. Michigan had its chance.

Do not just write Florida off in this game! Everyone knows what kind of football we play in the SEC!

You know, Honestly I am very conflicted here. As an SEC fan I want to see Florida get into the NC game (Although I truly think OSU will beat them by 10-20 pts). HOwever, Michigan getting in would show what a complete joke the BCS is,a nd why a playoff is the only way to go.

Of course Florida getting in may piss off enough of the NE media/poll voters that control all the big media (sorry there is an anti SEC bias there just as their is an anto Big 10 bias here in the south- we all know that) -- that there may be a universal outcry for change. Unfortunately the BCS pres is the SEC pres also, and Florida getting in will placate the dam school pres's yet again.

As I said, Conflicted.
