As we settle into the nighttime of dispair, fret not, for the Sun will rise again!!
Good morning!!
We, here, will never forget those who died on September 11, 2001, as we seek to protect the Republic from all who will do her harm!!
In an exclusive interview with Nancy Pelosi, incoming Speaker of the House of Representatives, her detailed plans for the 110th Congress took place. She even let on some of the plans of her counterpart in the Senate, incoming Majority Leader Senator Reid.
When asked what her main priority would be, Pelosi indicated it was important that the American people regain trust in their National legislature. Asked how she would do this, she said, "Simple--Senator Reid and I agreed that we would sponsor one, and only one, resolution. We will introduce this resolution on the first day of the 110th Congress. That resolution will call for the immediate adjournment, sine die of the Congress."
Asked to elaborate, Ms. Pelosi pointed out that it was important the American people see their legislators at their best, and working for the American people. It was important, therefore, that the "American people be assured that we not allow any corruption, even in our own party, be allowed to be in positions where they might actually speak to the American people.
"Take a look--there's Mr. Jefferson. He's back. Mr. Cold Cash. We know he took the bribes, we just need to keep him away from the American people.
"Then Senator Reid reminded me about Senator Byrd and his Klan connections. Can't be putting that in the newspapers and expect to show we're serious about ending corruption, no sirree.
"Then there's Alcee Hastings, an impeached judge don't you know..."
"But Ms. Pelosi, didn't you vote to impeach him?"
"Yes, yes, I did. Let me talk about that. You see it was the intent of the voters, after all the votes had been counted for Mr. Hastings--did I say that? I meant after all the votes that had been cast had been counted for Mr. Hastings. No, wait, his votes and the votes of his opponent, where appropriate, counted for Mr. Hastings--yes, that's it--that he be returned to his seat. But that doesn't mean we have to put him near a microphone.
"Then I have my chairman of the Intelligence Committee. What a bonehead. We worked on him for hours. 'It's Sunni, it's Sunni, it's Sunni--his reply?' He said, 'Yes, it's sunny outside.'
"Then I have Mr. Hoyer, my Majority Leader. It's just rumors about all those sweetheart land deals he had in Maryland. But we have to watch those appearances of impropriety, after all. Appearances are important--is my makeup all right. I don't have too much, do you think?
"This, of course, prompted Senator Reid to remind me that there was no truth to the allegations surrounding his own real estate dealings. 'The people of Nevada have a right,' he told me, 'to know that their Senator is not a crook.'"
The interview then turned to matters of fiscal policy. Ms. Pelosi indicated she was "determined to see to it that her party reigned in profligate spending. We need to make sure the taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.
"We will work to ensure Henry Waxman introduces no meausres that cost only a little in the beginning but burgeon to enormous amounts in the out-years.
"We will make sure we don't overtax Americans--that is a solid position for the 110th Congress. You heard it here. Read my lips--wait, you can't? We'll increase literacy spending. Did I say that?
The subject turned to Impeachment of President Bush. Ms. Pelosi assured us that "John Conyers will not be allowed to introduce any resolution seeking Impeachment of the President. I just won't allow it. I am in charge after all--never mind that little slip up with the Majority Leader position. That was just to allow the other elements in my party to think they had a chance. Yeah, that's it. That's the message, the image I want to carry forward. Is my makeup all right for that?
"So you see, we will accomplish great things for the American people. That is our goal. Mr. Reid and I sat down for great length to come up with our strategy for the 110th Congress. We decided the best way forward was for our Representatives and Senators to actually get to know their people. It would serve the double purpose of allowing me to keep my promises of fiscal restraint, integrity, and non-Impeachment.
"We'll just go home. No Congress.
And the interview was concluded...
"And I would like to wish say a supreme being, not necessarily a deity but an icon of ones own choosing, only if one chooses to acknowledge icons, religious or otherwise, bless, or not depending upon your desires, this nation, or collection of people, usually, but not required to be, referred to as the United States of America."
"Say Good Night, Nancy."
"Good Night, Nancy. By the way, is my makeup still all right?"
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
Chair - thank you for getting us started.
Your tree gets more elegant every year.
Well - here is my current fantasy.
I hope to donate a couple of dozen burka's, have a group of those moral-savers that have and do roam Saudi Arabia and Iran brought over to stand outside the Grammies and Oscars and put burka's on the "glamourous" stars BEFORE they get to the red carpet.
Although we haven't been in Islamic parts for 15 years and then could only talk to the English speaking ones, I feel for their abhorrance of our gross American values (Hollywood).
Personal objection to Oscars, etc, is looking at those costumes in papers next day.
Think Jemian may know what I am talking about.
Let's, er, debate for a moment...what are the chances that a pubbie would do so. DO you know anything about the governor of SD?
LOL! I'm sorry for you, but at the same time enjoying the humor of the problem.
Do you remember when I was using the laptop with the problematic "e"? This reminds me of that.
Get a new keyboard.
I thought that was a Mimosa. I love 'em. I have been known to down six or more at a time.
We don't have many burkas here at all. At the market I'll probably see only one or two, at the most. Most of the moslems women, who cover, wear the short jilbab which is a head scarf. Most moslem women here don't cover any more than the rest of us do.
BTW, most of the companies here have Christmas parties. There are Christmas "trees" and parties and carols all over the place. Nothing PC going on. Of course, we see a lot of stuff at Ramadan, Idul Fitri and Idul Adha, too.
Re: loathing for American values
I don't see that here. The people I encounter want to become more like Americans. Okay, the Koreans don't, and the Brits don't and the Dutch don't (except a lot of these folks want to retire to America and are thinking of ways to get in). But the nationals loathing America and our values? Not on this island.
So do you need Santa to bring you a new keyboard, Guenevere??:-))
Okay, is it safe to turn on the tv? I got tired very quickly of the Sen. Johnson speculation.
He's already on record as being inclined to appoint a Republican if it comes to that.
Simple answer ... no, Molly ... it's not.
Here's what you do .... put some Gershwin on your CD player, sit back and remember when you and your sister tap danced for you Dad ....
Maybe go to WalMart and buy a really cheap TV ... lug it out to the backyard ... using an extension cord ... plug it in ... turn to CNN and begin target practice ... Har!
... put some Gershwin on your CD player ... ... will that make it operate any better? ... 'tis one of the only times I am glad lepton is not here ... I wouldn't hear the end of it ....
Didn't this happen somewhere a few year's back and the 'Pub Govenor appointed a Dem Senator
BWAK! I sure would love to hear more about that, if you are comfortable bringing it here. I watched ... over and over again ... the documentary Obsession and 15 years ago brings us to a very interesting point in history ... maybe destiny .... is more correct.
And you say I am a hard act to follow ?... flipitigedic ... not so, my friend ....
.... I've a problem, here ... I just did spell check and flipitigedic was not bounced .... I made it up, I thought ... now I am hoping I have not said something ... well ... not quite the thing .....
Well, Gershwim would probably be far more comfortable on a CD player than on a record player...or being run through the tape machine.
Hello, illstillbe! I keep missing you. Stand still! ;)
The time before that, when Republican Senator John Heinz was killed in a plane crash, democrat Governor Bob Casey appointed democrat Harris Woford to finish the term.
There is ample precedent for the Governor of South Dakota to appont a Republican to that seat, so the democrats should not waste their time whining about fairness should the Senator johnson resign or pass on.
He rarely reins me in, but that idea just MIGHT do it!
No it's still old movie time ...Food Channel time....good ol' get out and shop time!
Speaking of my sister, we had a grand time tap-dancing thru old family graveyards last summer...
All the libs at work were fretting about this all day. Not once did they care at all for the poor guy in the hospital
HOB, hope the situation improves at work...and in time for some Christmas cheer, instead of Christmas drear..
Bit... and may '07 be more than '06 has been for you, but your half-full glass point is well taken.
But this is not surprising after all. Conservatives have lives and hearts beyond politics.
I'm glad you reminded me of the Coverdell precedent...I thought that's the way it happened, but needed confirmation.
Observe???
