This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Another sizzler today.
Have a great weekend!
Good morning...
Duchess... let us know when Friday is home... Make sure you take some pictures that clearly show her condition, in case there’s a stink later.
Good morning.
Duchess, hope you can get the horses collected with no problem...is there a chance the guy could get ugly about it?
I’ve been out mowing, and am now trying to get the ambition up to go ride a bit...may not happen tho:). There is still plenty to mow so what to do....
Jenny and I are going to go to a playday this evening in Bixby. I don’t think I know that many people down there anymore in the Round up Club, but it’s something to go do and watch and take pictures.
Becky
Good morning...
We’re getting ready to go in to town, pick up some Quiet Pony powder, have breakfast, come back and get our act together to go on a trail ride today :~)
Just take care of yourself right now. The other will work out. Doors and stuff, ok?:’)
We replaced the weak link in the front of the yard, the paddock fence, and put in horse mesh... Now there's either horse mesh or field fence all the way around.
Old...
Done... we brought the mesh all the way around the corner... Then tied in to the electric.
Barkley getting to be loose for once... checking out the perimeter... man... he's a perimeter checker... we aren't done yet...
You gonna keep him?
I missed both my riding lessons this past week because I had JURY DUTY (ugh!) Never served on a jury before, because there wasn't a lawyer stupid enough to take a lawyer on a jury (why would anybody want another lawyer in the jury room?) But they kept keeping us late. We reached a verdict Thursday evening. It was interesting but very exhausting both mentally and physically.
Anyhow, our retriever club was having a special seminar for new members and inexperienced handlers today - I Emailed our club secretary asking if anybody was training and he called me on the phone and said, "Well, this was SUPPOSED to be for new members, but everybody's showing up!" So off we went (at least I have a new puppy!)
Ruby's flying water entry.
Yes, she can do water retrieves! (the check cord is so she doesn't get any ideas about carrying it off somewhere for private gnawing).
"O.K., NOW will you give me the bumper?"
Miss Shelley got to retrieve also (she sat patiently in the truck during the seminar).
I didn't realize what a little block of a dog Shelley is until I saw what a little wet weasel Ruby is . . . boy is she a skinny lanky thing!
I can’t keep up here. Too busy chasing my tail.
Pictures when we got her (She was a bit overweight and under muscled)
Pictures at halter.
Pictures when Sam was born and later when she went to the breeders.
Pictures today.
Sam's too thin also.
They both need worming and lots of feed. Also need a farrier soonest. Bob did learn today that the fault is not the man who leased her but the woman (breeder) where she was being kept. The man knows nothing about horses except that he loves them and was being taken to the cleaners by the woman. He is most happy to have her here and in our care. He wants Bob to take his other mares when they get ready to foal and see them through that. How we will be able to manage that I don't know but I guess we'll try. Bob also said Friday is home for good :)
Oh Duchess......she looks sick. Her eyes are dull.:’(
The kid looks good though:’)
Too bad that your horses had to wind up in the middle of a soap opera! Hopefully no lasting harm will come of it.
That looks like a lot of work, but you all did a good job.
I mowed for a bit more yesterday then went and rode for a hour.
Becky
Very nice pictures:). Looks like fun.
Becky
It’s good you have them home, and there was no trouble.
She has lost some weight, but she’s not too bad...I’ve seen worse. I bet it won’t take long to pick her back up.

"Maybe if I bite on THIS I can get those birds out . . . "
Actually, all the pigeons survived unscathed, since they were just chased around by the puppies. Ruby was very worried by the pidges once they were out and flapping and wouldn't pick them up (and hid behind Mama), but it was the first time she'd ever seen a live bird. Shelley was the same way the first time she saw a duck at age 3 "Take that disgusting object away! I shall complain to the management!" but she came around.
Most of the pups wouldn't put their mouths on the birds, but one of the members had the brashest little 6 month old yellow Lab boy, he was on those birds like ugly on a warthog, he would step on a wing to hold them down, then stuff them in his mouth and parade around to everybody in turn to show them "Look what I got!" The pidges were NOT happy about his behavior, but as I said once they got back in their crate they all recovered nicely.
